A start

[edit]

I started this page but it certainly could use some "filling in" of the details. I don't have much information on his life prior to his joining Rigdon's church. I also don't have much of anything on his later life after the move to Kansas. Why did his tenure as president of the church end in 1880? Did he retire or resign, or was he deposed? I don't have any of this information. -SESmith 03:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can help with that information and was actually planning to create this page next week. It looks rock solid. From my understanding the church was united under the Presidency of William Cadman per vote of the Quorum in order to keep the President at the HQ. Basically at this time the church was in two locations and these two men held leadership positions, but WC stayed in charge of the General Church. In fact, later controversy over growing a wine field would lead to William Bickerton actually leaving the church -- he rejoined before his death. I'll work on this over the weekend.Jcg5029 00:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've done pretty much all I can do with the sources I have. Feel free to change anything that I haven't got quite right. -SESmith 01:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So far it looks great. I think you kept a pretty good NPOV and got some good detail in. I'll join in and help get this moving along after the weekend, - JRN 19:25, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The "Green Oak" Pennsylvania is actually Greenock, PA, named after the borough northwest of Glasgow, Scotland. It is frequently misspelled. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tnilson (talkcontribs) 19:43, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Is it appropriate to link to President of the Church (Latter Day Saints) when referring to past and present presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ? Most of the info. there deals with the presidents of the LDS Church and the Community of Christ, although there is a small section at the bottom which lists the history of the presidents of TCOJC. There is not much there on the functions, duties, etc. of the position in this church though. I've added a wikilink to President of the Church (Latter Day Saints) in this article, but I won't be upset if the consensus is that it would be inapprorpriate until the referred to article is expanded to address the president of TCOJC. -SESmith 09:19, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is a very good link. President of the Church (Latter Day Saints) needs some work in order to really show its proper reference here, but its just a matter of time and effort on that page. I see no problem to linking it right now in the hopes of working on that page to properly represent The Church of Jesus Christ.
I changed without asking the link to prophet seer and revelator and just made it individual links of each one just because that link was only about the Utah Latter Day Saints in its current layout. The links are proper in their relevance to the topic I felt. Jcg5029 17:23, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, I realized after I did the link to prophet, seer, and revelator that that was pretty much a LDS Church-centered article and wasn't appropriate for this context. -SESmith 20:57, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

I have tried, without success, to find a legal picture to post on this site. Does anybody have a picture of William Bickerton that could be placed here??? Jcg5029 23:04, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
