Release date
[edit]Something is puzzling about the stated release date of October, 1957. Namely that it didn't reach Billboard's Top Pop Album chart until the March 17, 1958 issue, almost 5 months later. By contrast, the original cast recording of The Music Man was released Jan. 20, 1958, and made the Top LP chart in the Feb. 24 issue, only 5 weeks later. Was the public really ignoring West Side Story for months? Or was it actually released later, like maybe early February, 1958? A topic for further research. PatConolly (talk) 05:38, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- Continuing - looks like the public really was ignoring it. It was reviewed in Billboard in the Oct. 21, 1957 issue. When it reached the charts in March 1958 it was only on for 4 weeks before dropping off, and only got as high as #22. Eventually it accrued 191 weeks, and as the article notes peaked at #5 in 1962, which was after the very popular movie. PatConolly (talk) 00:17, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

West Side Story (Original Broadway Cast) → West Side Story (Original Broadway Cast album) – Shouldn't West Side Story be the only thing italicized? I'll admit, I don't know if the "Original Broadway Cast" is part of the title. Saturdayopen (talk) 04:49, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

- Italics are not done this way, but while we're at it: West Side Story (Original Broadway Cast album) would make more sense. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:31, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- "Original Broadway Cast" does not appear to be part of the title, I propose to move to West Side Story (1957 album). 19:55, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Both (and only) references have the name as "West Side Story [Original Broadway Cast Recording]" and "West Side Story - Original Broadway Cast Recording". --Gonnym (talk) 13:51, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. The current article title requires no further disambiguation. The phrases West Side Story and Original Broadway Cast both appear on the album sleeve of the copy I have, as did the phrase Original Broadway Cast on many if not all similar cast recordings of the 1950s. So the current title is a good one in terms of both being concise and recognisable. Andrewa (talk) 10:54, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
