Wikipedia is not a timetable
[edit]Some of the more intricate timetable details that have been added of late are sailing close to the wind with regards to the above rule. I think the route tables should only display a rough route summary, linking in to other Wikipedia articles where appropriate [so trying to avoid street names wherever possible in preference to districts], plus a rough summary of frequency for Mon-Sat daytime, Mon-Sat evening and Sunday. I don't see any further details as being necessary, including some of the more spurious termini details and details of one-off short workings at the end of the day etc. I'd like to clean up the table and leave it clearer - timetables should always to be consulted before travel, and warning is given to this effect. Any thoughts? Divy 09:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough, whatever you want, I think route timings should be kept, but also, we need to thunk of whom the main target audience for this is. I don't think very many people from outside the district would use it, it's encyclopaedic, but I doubt it has a wide audience. Also, with some routes, they only serve certain parts of the district. Also, some places that appear as streets are actually important sub-districts if you like, so Greenwood Cr is one (and no I don't live on it, so theres no bias there). So basically in summary, I agree with your point on some terms, but not on others.
How about this for example:
Service | Description |
---|---|
1/2 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Latchford-Westy-Howley-Warrington (circular) |
3 | Warrington-Howley-Manchester Road-Woolston-Martinscroft> |
Ser 3 operates more or less the full length of M'cr Road so it needs to be mentioned'
| |
4 | Warrington-Howley-Padgate-Bruche-Woolston |
5 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Stockton Heath-Grappenhall-Thelwall-Lymm-Warburton-Dunham Town-Altrincham |
6/7 and variants | Warrington-Wilderspool-Stockton Heath-Cobbs (6/7)-Grappenhall-Thelwall (6)-Statham (6)-Lymm (6) |
8/9 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Stockton Heath-Cobbs-Appleton Thorn-Stretton-Hatton |
11/12 and variants | Warrington-Wilderspool-Latchford (A)-Loushers Ln-Gainsborough Rd-Wilderspool-Warrington (circular) |
Can't describe route without mentioning street names
| |
13 | Warrington-Whittle Brook-Whittle Hall-Westbrook-Kingswood |
14/15 | Warrington-Whittle Brook-Sankey-Whittle Brook-Warrington (circular) |
16/A | Warrington-Bewsey-General Hospital-Dallam |
Gen Hospital is the main reason for this route, and is integral
| |
18/A | Warrington-Old Hall-Westbrook-Callands (18) or Gemini then Callands (A) |
19 | Warrington-Winwick Road-Winwick-Croft-Culcheth-Glazebury-Leigh |
W.Rd. mentioned as route goes full length
| |
20/21 and variants | Warrington-Hulme-Orford-Longford-General Hospital (A)-Warrington (circular) |
A routes run throughout Sunday and early mornings, so aren't random variants, so actually warrant a mention imho
| |
23/A | Warrington-Padgate-Hilden Island-Fearnhead-Cinnamon Brow-Orford (A) |
24/A (new route) | Warrington-Padgate-Hilden Island-Fearnhead-Locking Stumps-Birchwood Park (A)-Birchwood-Oakwood |
Hilden Island is a timetable point, so should be mentioned | |
25 | Warrington-Orford-Greenwood Estate-Cinnamon Brow-Locking Stumps-Birchwoo-Oakwood-Gorse Covert |
Greenwood Estate is a key point en-route, to the extent it gets a specific mention on the frequency guide
| |
Probably not worth mentioning 25B (new assignment for 28 Ryfields) as only one rtn journey daily
| |
26/27 | Warrington-Orford-Cinnamon Brow (26) or Fearnhead (27)-Locking Stumps-Birchwood-Oakwood-Gorse Covert |
28 (new assignment for 386)/A (586) | Warrington-Howley-Padgate-Bruche-Birchwood (28)-Locking Stumps-Risley-Culcheth-Leigh |
29 | Warrington-Sankey Bridges-Sankey-Lingley Green-Whittle Brook (l/s 2bph)-Westbrook (l/s 2bph)-Kingswood (l/s 1bph)-Burtonwood(l/s 1bph)-Collins Green (l/s 1bph) |
l/s=limited service and bph=buses per hour
| |
30-32 | Warrington-Penketh-Warrington |
This may need to be discussed, not mentioned 33 as will be withdrawn
| |
37A/38 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Latchford-Thelwall-Statham-Lymm-Broomedge (37A) or Dunham Town (38)-Altrincham |
45 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Stockton Heath-Stretton-Antrobus-Lostock Gralam-Northwich |
46 | Warrington-Wilderspool-Stockton Heath-Stretton-Comberbach-Anderton-Barnton-Northwich |
48 | Warrington-Wilerspool-Latchford-Stockton Heath-Dudlows Green |
49 to be withdrawn, so discussion unnecessary
| |
101 | Warrington-Bank Quay station-Centre Park-Academy Way (for Market/Town Centre)-Central Station-Haliwell Jones stadium (for East Warrington Primary Care Centre)-Warrington |
Academy Way mentioned as is difficult to describe route otherwise
| |
420 | Warrington-Winwick Road-Winwick-Newton-Earlestown-Vulcan (daytimes only) |
- Personally,I think we should leave it as is until Jan 8 as, theres going to be some major work done to the table. DannyM 14:00, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see any problem with using road names for the main arterial roads out of the town centre, and these are probably more recognisable to people than for example Howley. Indeed, the whole inner wards are very difficult to mark out definitively - take Marsh House Lane for example, which I suppose is in Fairfield but would not be given a district other than generic "Warrington" in postal addresses. Other notable destinations that I believe could be included are railway stations [although possibly not Warrington town centres ones on routes other than the Centrelink] and various retail stores that may be of interest, most notably Ikea at Gemini.
- Journey time could be useful, although peak time journeys are scheduled to take longer than off-peak, and Sunday/evenings are quicker again. It's also a very fuzzy concept on circular routes and routes which have a loop at one or both ends, and on routes where there are regular short workings. Frequency could still be included: with forthcoming service revisions, we are blessed that whilst almost all routes have updated timetables, very few will actually need any update on the article, as frequency remains the same. It also gives a rough indication of how busy certain routes are. Look at London Buses route 73 for an example of how not-too-specific information (i.e. no timing point data) of this kind can be of interest in an encylopaedic manner - not that I'm suggesting setting up WBT route 1 et.al! I also like the low-floor info, though that may soon be unnecessary, and the emboldening of key destinations.
- Going forwards, some pictures would be good and I hope to take some soon. I'd also like to tabularise the fleet details, possibly with a small image of each vehicle type. Some pictures of historic liveries, trams etc could also improve the article. Plus finally, the intro will need updating at some point soon as the Network Warrington rebranding continues apace. Route table update and preserved vehicles
[edit]I have been working on a revised format for the route table, which can be found at User:Divy/Sandbox. My basic thinking is along these lines:
- Revised colours sourced directly from the new Network Map
- Better colour-coding by removing some of the compound entries
- Clearer to read routes by having via points in smaller font
- Removed journey time as this is unreliable and does not appear for any other transport company entry on Wikipedia
- Removed disability icon - the reason for this is that no services are advertised by the company as being low floor any more, partly due to new compensation rules, but also due to the large percentage of low-floor vehicles now in use (about 85%)
You can also find my initial work on a list of preserved vehicles, for an extended section on the historic fleet. I'd welcome any feedback. Divy 22:38, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Like the new format, don't know if you agree, but to avoid confusion, instead of null entries, I'd put no service. I have to agree with the journey time (as I've never been on a service that has run to an exact time), and the disabled logos (as almost all normal services are SLF, and WBT are adding more to their fleet (when the 08 regs come out)).

Well done
[edit]Hello My compliments on an excellent effort - accurate and bang up to date. How about mentioning the Warrington Business Awards; the company won the Social Responsibility Award in 2001 and 2007 and the Business Survivor Award in 2003. Also, I think the 98% Customer Satisfaction score in 2007 deserves a mention. I guess you are aware that five new SB120s are coming in January. And from 11th Feb, there will be a new route serving Chapleford using two vehicles with special livery which will be a tweak on the Network Warrington livery. Also, a new design for the Centrelink livery is in the pipleline. Kindest regards and keep up the great work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.149.16.85 (talk) 21:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Service changes from 11/2/08
[edit]Just advance warning, the following alterations are to take place (nature still unknown)
- Service 3/4/4A - timetable change
- Service 25/28 - route change (most likely over the common area) and timetable change
- New service 17-Warrington-Chapleford Village-Westbrook, to run half-hourly as a Mon-Sat service.
I shall update the page as soon as I get more information
