[edit]When someone types in Wale, it should go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wale_(rapper) . can we get this changed? ELiTe185 (talk) 23:13, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Actually no, it shouldn't, and I saw this as a fan of Wale. Wale (relating to a ship) is also a legitimate term for an encyclopedia, and it's not wrong for a reader to go there when they type in "Wale." At the top of that page is a link to this disambiguation page where the will find the link to Wale the rapper. To me at least this is acceptable. --Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 00:55, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- The at least could we have it like this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince where a link to his page shows at the top. I feel like the term "Wale" in reference to a ship is far less commonly used than Wale the artist. ELiTe185 (talk) 04:23, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- Your probably right that Wale the artist is more searched for than the ship term, which will particularly be the case if his career takes off more than it has to date. One thing we could consider for the future is simply having Wale direct to this disambiguation page rather than to the article on a ship plank. For now though I think it's fine to leave it as is. I also think it's fine to handle this article like the Prince one as you suggest, i.e. at Wale link both to the disambiguation page here and to the article on the rapper. If you like you can definitely go ahead and do that. --Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 04:41, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- Done How'd I do? ELiTe185 (talk) 05:05, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- Looks good, if necessary this could be revisited at a later time, but I think this works for now. --Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 05:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

The usage of Wale (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) is under discussion, see talk:Wale (rapper) -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 06:28, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

– No clear primary topic, the ship part has 698 views but the rapper has 11,451, the surname has 15, the defunct radio station has 5, the place in Poland has 8 and the place in England has 1[[1]]. While the ship part may be primary by long-term significance it clearly isn't by usage. Confusion with the animal and country are also possible but I wouldn't put much weight to that since they are probably not ambiguous with "Wale". Google returns more results for the rapper than ship type, Images only returns the rapper and Books is unclear but at least doesn't appear to return the ship type. A discussion at Talk:Wale (rapper)#Requested move in 2013 to make the rapper primary failed but in this case the proposal is no primary topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:31, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support. The article currently at Wale could likely be merged to Glossary of nautical terms (M-Z), IMO. 162 etc. (talk) 01:12, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:RECENTISM; the ship part has significantly greater long term significance, while the popularity of the rapper will fade. BilledMammal (talk) 04:03, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nomination and 162 etc. There are 13 entries listed upon the Wale (disambiguation) page, with the five-sentence stub delineating the ship plank unlikely to overshadow the combined notability of the remaining 12 entries. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 06:44, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose (a) WP:RECENTISM (b) the short nature of the article Wale could not be dealt with in [[Glossary of nautical terms (M-Z)] as there is more to say on the subject - and what is there is already too long for a glossary entry. For instance, the article makes no mention of the derivative Gunwale (there's another defective article) and there is more to say on the structure of Mediaeval ships{{snd]]it's just that no-one has got around to doing the research and putting together a decent article. ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 07:02, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nom, no clear PRIMARYTOPIC. Sure, there's one argument for recentism, and there's another against due to page views, so when in doubt disambiguate.--Ortizesp (talk) 16:23, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support. No clear primary topic. The rapper dominates in pageviews, but people have raised sensible concerns about recentism; the ship part leads in long-term significance, but seems to be a relatively niche technical term, making me hesitant to give it primary status on long-term significance alone. Giving the primary title to the DAB is the best solution. ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 15:32, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
