Name spelling
[edit]Not sure which is the correct spelling of this person's name given the sources title him with either the y or double i at the end. Pinging @Mattythewhite and Andriyrussu:, both of whom have moved the article from one version to another. Ukrainian name spellings I think can be quite complicated depending on what country you're in. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:44, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Requested move 22 September 2022

The result of the move request was: Move to Vitalii Mykolenko. - UtherSRG (talk) 23:48, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Vitaliy Mykolenko → Vitalii Mykolenko – Different sources gave his first name with two different varieties, one being with the letter y at the end, the other i. Let's find out which is the preferred option, to stay put or move to my proposed title. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:22, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Could you please share the sources with us so that we can develop an informed opinion, Iggy? This shouldn't be about personal preferences, obviously. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:37, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yes I can @Robby.is.on: - liverpoolecho.co.uk, his Instagram and ESPN are three examples. Apparently the Everton profile link has his name spelt both ways. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:14, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose - 'Vitaliy' is used by Everton, Manchester Evening News, Soccerway, NFT - on Google I get 171k for 'Vitaliy' and 54k for 'Vitalii'. GiantSnowman 19:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Weak oppose - The player himself seems to prefer "Vitalii", but his club, his club's league, his country and his country's governing body seem to prefer "Vitaliy". Though his club and country are divided on the issue, their preference is clearly for "Vitaliy" over "Vitalii". – PeeJay 11:42, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support the sources highlighted already show there is no clear consensus on the issue- his own club even call him Vitaliy and Vitalii in the same page [1]. However, he clearly refers to himself as "Vitalii" [2] (useable as per WP:ABOUTSELF), and so we should take the preference of how he actually chooses to spell his name. - Support per Joseph and the links provided by Iggy. Robby the Rabbit (talk) 09:28, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support his spells his own name out on his instagram as Vitalii MykolenkoMuur (talk) 23:46, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Looking at Newspapers.com (via Wikipedia Library), 'ii' returns 13 matches and 'iy' returns 19 matches. Without breaking down the location of papers, nor the locations of the sources provided above, I agree with @Joseph2302: that there is no real consensus among reliable sources and would favor the 'ii' that the person himself appears to favor. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:52, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
