Proposed expansion
[edit]This article is a daughter of Virginia Conventions initiated by Dallyripple. Editors are invited to expand it with additional research to develop better historical context prior to the Convention itself, and to elaborate the main features of the Constitution that are not addressed in the summaries at Virginia Constitution. Thanks in advance. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 06:36, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Unlinks in the Chart of Delegates
[edit]In the Chart of Delegates, I have sought to link the names to the Virginia personages at the Convention, including those with previous biographical articles, especially Members of Congress with either prior or subsequent careers there, striving to align some of the character's middle initials, middle names and middle name omissions with prior articles. Generally I looked for an alignment of birth date, death date and place of birth or burial, as well as confirmation of state and national offices held as reported in my Virginia sources, including Pulliam, Brenaman and the Encyclopedia Virginia online.
If there were no existing articles, I sought to create new bios for those most notable as both members of Constitutional Conventions and members of the General Assembly as Delegates or state Senators. Those who served in one Constitutional Convention as their only elective office, or who otherwise served in County offices alone, and those who are not noted at all in Pulliam’s “The Constitutional Conventions of Virginia from the Foundation of the Commonwealth to the present time (1901)”, have not yet been addressed.
Those names that have not met those criteria have been unlinked. But as always, editors are invited to collaborate here to expand the encyclopedia. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 15:18, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- FYI, something looks wrong in the chart of delegates, especially compared with that in your Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1868. Did a comment column get deleted or entries only partially completed?Jweaver28 (talk) 17:38, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you! Good eye. As I remember, the Virginia Constitutional Convention Charts were developed in chronological order as the daughter articles were written. The source material in each case varied in its presentation of delegate information, and generally I simply mirrored the source material in the sequence I came upon it. In the case of the chart for the Convention of 1829-30 here, as I remember, I added the information relating to further elective and appointive government service as an afterthought to the first draft of the chart.
- That information should be moved from nesting in the first column "District" into its own column on the right, and each delegate's party affiliation should be added, which in most cases I can quickly scrub directly from their WP bio articles. Thank you! TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 07:41, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
