Article name
[edit]Should probably be Valdés Peninsula see Category:Peninsulas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tobias Conradi (talk • contribs) 14:54, 30 July 2005
- The article appears to be incorrectly titled. For one, although we keep the foreign spelling of the name part of place-names, we use the English word for the geographical feature, e.g. we have Somme River, not Rivière Somme. Also, we're supposed to use the most common form of the name in English (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) for the policy on this). A Yahoo search shows that for web pages in English shows that the English spelling of "Peninsula" is far more common:
- about 5,380 for "Península Valdés"
- about 5,740 for "Península Valdes"
- about 7,090 for "Peninsula Valdés"
- about 41,600 for "Peninsula Valdes"
- about 41 for "Valdés Península"
- about 43 for "Valdes Península"
- about 2,630 for "Valdés Peninsula"
- about 34,600 for "Valdes Peninsula"
- So, it looks like it should be moved to either Peninsula Valdes or Valdes Peninsula. Given that the difference between the two is pretty small, I'm going to go with Valdes Peninsula, out of consistency with all the other "[Foo] Peninsula" articles on Wikipedia. World Heritage
[edit]I think that the Peninsula Valdes should be included on the World Heritage List as it is an important resource for study of some important animals. It also hosts many endangered and vulnerable animals which should be conserved. --User:Gordboy.read

Valdes Peninsula → Valdés Peninsula – Correct spelling Yilku1 (talk) 22:49, 11 March 2023 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 02:35, 13 March 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. BD2412 T 18:14, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:USEENGLISH. English language sources tend to drop the accent mark for this subject. Rreagan007 (talk) 04:34, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think that assertion is true, given that this Google ngram of English language sources shows that they're used at pretty similar rates. :3 F4U (talk) 13:25, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:USEENGLISH the carcasses of almost 500 young southern right whales have washed up on Argentina’s Valdés Peninsula, one of the species’ key calving areas, over the past decade. (Unless the Guardian is not English?). Since this isn't an exonym, and isn't that one blonde Serbian tennis player who was targeted by anti-diacritic fans, so we should use the quality sources in English to produce a quality encyclopaedia - as we do, for over a million of our articles. Life is too short to hanker after stencil machines. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:56, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
