Doesn't the current picture show too much arching of the lower back? Shouldn't there be more movement in thoracic area? 67.189.0.65 (talk) 14:10, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the main problem with the picture is that her hands are way to far forward. In cobra the hands are below the shoulders or further back so that they can create traction (axial extension in the spine). The arms like this would make this pose compressive to the lower back and possibly injurious and really SHOULD NOT be practiced in this fashion. In safer versions, this pose would, as 67.189 points out, create more movement in the thoracic spine as well. Well, they're still similar poses, if you think of the wide range of asanas, from Anantasana to Sirsasana and Chakrasana, for example, the ones in this article are clearly pretty close to each other. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:38, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
