Agreed

[edit]

We need to expand this artical. It shouldn't even have a plot spoiler because there's no plot in that mini paragrah. September 12 2006 6:32 Momoroxmysoxoff

Not to be mean or anything, but the summary pretty much sucks. I haven't read the book, so I can't edit it myself and I suppose I can't really judge it, but it sounds like it was written by a fifth grader. "fantasizzed?" Spazz 19:14, →19 January 2007 (UTC)

Yup

[edit]

I'm on page 221 of the book, and as interesting at it is, this summary has just downgraded it about 1000000000 levels. Once I'm finished with it I'll get to work on editing it. ON TO READING! --*SMILYS FOR ALL!* Da.Tomato.Dude 23:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good thinking cuz my summaries are pretty bad and would probably look like the one thats already up! But I am tired of people dissing such a great book! - You Better Belive It! - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.255.136.9 (talkcontribs) 14:41, April 8, 2007

I finished the book tonight, and the article looks like a badly written book report. -- 67.184.171.198 06:05, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've just done some major cleanup on this article. It would be nice if someone could check behind me to fix typos, change anyhting they think is unclear, add some details, etc. Now to Pretties...--Isis4563(talk) 18:08, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have already read every single book in the series and that page does look pretty plain to describe such a, well awsome book. I have added a couple details but I know I have many typos, I fixed some, anyway, but there still needs to be more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.220.128.22 (talk) 01:51, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Why does Simon Pulse redirect here?24.186.199.237 00:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Currently Working

[edit]

During my spare time, I'm doing as much as I possibly can to help clean up the plot summary, however if someone else beats me to it, I'm fine with that. I don't know who wrote it, but it's absolutely horrible and smells like a D+ book report. Caterfree10 21:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sequels

[edit]

I've changed the 'Followed By' section to show the three sequels as seperate books instead of one called 'Pretties Specials Extras', but this may need to be changed to merely Pretties. Will make sure this same problem isn't on other pages.

Edit: Seeing how the other sequels list the accompanying books, I'm changing 'Followed by' to merely list Pretties. Shint (talk) 17:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The link in the quick facts box for the uglies series doesn't have a page attatched to it, but there is a stub for the uglies series, that says it redirects from the uglies trilogy. I'm not sure how to fix it, but I would love to learn how! Thanks from Acris (talk) 22:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Twilight zone reference ?

[edit]

I'm surprised that the page doesn't mention this twilight zone episode on which this book is obviously based:

Plot

[edit]

The plot summary is way too long and gives away the entire book, basically. A plot summary needs to be short and to the point, but still give enough information so the reader is saitisfied. I'm going to clean it up and condense it. If someone has a problem with it, change it back.WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:58, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's an excellent idea, but we need to give all the basic information in the book. What I mean is that we don't need to leave points of the plot summary just so that we don't 'spoil' the book. ~ Bella Swan 20:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay:) My intentions were to do that, but I can see I havn't explained that well. I'll begin the re-writing now, and hopefully have it ready soon. It can't be as broad as "This story is about people who can become pretty" of course, but I'll also not give away the ending.WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I condensed and shortened the plot a lot. Although the change is huge, it gives the basic structure of the book. Still, I feel as though Tally's changing opinion should be added. Any thoughts? I'll go through and fix it up a little later. I'll also search for refernces; this article needs them.WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:51, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, I was saying to make sure to give away the ending, and all of the book, but we just don't need to give every detail of the plot. ~ Bella Swan 20:58, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the Wikipedian community likes giving the entire plot away. But, I'll change it. I will leave out insignificant details, though.WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 21:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The catastrophe was definitely not unremembered. Also, some other book's plot, or a made up plot, was added to the beginning of this one. I simply removed it and put one of the sentences from the first paragraph in its place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.53.206.147 (talk) 20:29, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, this tells us that we don't need to worry about spoiling the plot in any of the articles we write. (some exceptions might be worldwide famous books like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) So, you really should have a full, yet short, plot summary. ~ Bella Swan 12:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

James Hynes quote (uncited)

[edit]

I just removed the following from the opening paragraph:

and dealing with the revelation that "some of what you’re taught isn’t true, your parents are flawed human beings and the world isn’t constructed for your benefit."[1]

The quote is not only not from the book itself but from a review of a different book (Extras), therefore it really doesn't belong here.-- TyrS  chatties  04:20, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Plot

[edit]

The plot reads like the inside of a dust jacket.I just brought the book and it says almost the exact same thing. It also gives too much detail.Give me feedback about this matter soon.

I agree, that plot summary is pretty atrocious! It's been a while since I've read any of the books from the series, but I'll give a rewrite a go unless someone gets to it first. Murmuration (talk) 00:01, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
