One Anymore?

[edit]

Is there a U.S. 16 anymore? If there is its probably be state routes by the time I'm out of 5th grade because I'm only in 2nd grade right now. --Patricknoddy 15:56, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)User:Patricknoddy User talk:Patricknoddy 11:54 July 26, 2004 (EDT)

M-16

[edit]

This is just idle speculation at this point, but it may be worth something. M-16 (Michigan highway) "coincidentally" became US 16 in 1926. But in the 1925 plan, the Milwaukee-Detroit route was US 18. Between then and the final 1926 plan, it was changed to US 16, which was to end at Milwuakee. I'm thinking this was more than coincidence. --SPUI (T - C) 02:18, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, Cascade Rd. from Fulton to the Beltline (the 1936 routing) in Grand Rapids is labelled as US-16 on Google Maps and the 16 shields were still up when I lived there (-2003) --Jnik (talk) 06:58, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Distance Calculation

[edit]

Just as an FYI I calculated the distance of the route using ArcGIS 9 which tabulates the length of the route as 515 miles. This does not include the concurrency with I-90 between exits 128 and 153 (25 miles) which I added to the 515 to arrive at the 540 mile figure. If anyone else has a documented length, please correct it. Stratosphere 04:53, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Major intersections

[edit]

Can someone, with access to the sources, re-figure the mileposts? I think some of these are wrong, or they are using the mileposts of concurrent designations. The table should list what the distance is along US 16 itself is, or it should provide some explanation for a few of the anomalies. Namely, in Wyoming, how does a highway run 100.75&nbso;miles to get from the western terminus to the junction with US 310, then intersect US 14 some hundred miles farther away (MP 204.05) and backtrack to MP 199.27 for the WYO 36 junction? Please help correct this. Imzadi 1979  18:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wyoming's log points make no sense whatsoever. They don't appear to continue along concurrencies and seem to reset after them (and sometimes randomly, maybe). I think what I managed to figure out was that the first 100 miles are U.S. 20, then they switch to those of WYO 789 (going backwards since 789 is north-south). I think Worland is where U.S. 16's own mileposts begin. Beyond that I couldn't decipher it, and the data doesn't actually indicate what highway's mileposts are being used and by the time I finished I was too sick of WYODOT's esoteric mess to care to figure out the rest and add which highway I thought the mileposts might be for. Hopefully someone familiar with the area can shed some light on this. --Sable232 (talk) 23:53, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally, someone would figure the simple arithmetic to calculate what US 16's MPs should be. It's not original research to add or subtract to figure that the MPs would be if they were continuously logged or marked for just the one highway itself. It's more confusing in an article on US 16 to be listing several other highways' MPs, and it's only worse to have the table cluttered with multiple sets of additional numbers or footnoting to clarify what numbers correspond to what highway. Extension of Route 16 through South Dakota???

[edit]

I see it in the lead, but nowhere else. Is there a reference for this? Thanks! Hanyou23 (talk) 09:12, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Hanyou23 considering both of those locations are recreation areas along the Missouri River and none of the three ballot initiatives in South Dakota in 2022 were about roads at all, it's a good troll job. It's embarrassing that it took this long to find it. –Fredddie 03:30, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
