Named for what?
[edit]The ship is not named for Cooperstown, New York. It is in honor of baseball players enshrined at a famous museum in Cooperstown. The two sources cited in this article's lead paragraph - one of which simply copies the other - maintain that it's the first Navy ship with the name, not the first named for the town. - It is named for the village of Cooperstown, NY. As per the United States ship naming conventions, Littoral Combat Ships "are named for regionally-important U.S. cities and communities" (with the noted exceptions of the two lead ships, named for concepts, as well as LCS-10, named for a person, and LCS-30, named for a ship). The Navy wanted to honor servicemen who were also named to the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is located in Cooperstown, and that's why the town was selected as a ship name. (And while it is useful that "Cooperstown" is a common metonym used for the HoF, it is not the name of the HoF.) Hope this clears things up. - wolf 08:53, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
