Who developed it and for who?
[edit]As far as I know SAAB payed Triumph to develop the engine and that's why it was first fitted into SAABs. Later Triumph adapted the design for rear wheel drive and used it in their own cars. // Liftarn
The Slant-4 was not a replacement for the two-stroke and V4. Saab just sourced it for their brand new 99 model. The V4 (by Ford) was brought in to replace the two-stroke in the Saab 96.
