Lead
[edit]- Here's my option for the lead:
"Time Will Crawl" is a song recorded by English singer David Bowie, serving as the second single for his seventeenth studio album, Never Let Me Down (1987). It was solely written by the singer, while production was handled by him along with David Richards. Released in 1987 by EMI, the recording addresses the destruction of the planet by pollution and industry; the Chernobyl disaster was a direct influence on the lyrics. The accompanying music video served as a teaser to Bowie's Glass Spider Tour (1987). Music critics were positive towards "Time Will Crawl", commending its lyrics and production, but also calling it one of Bowie's best efforts. Commercially, the single peaked at number 33 on the UK Singles Chart and at number seven on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
- Done, with a few minor prose changes, also I thought it was important to keep the statement that Bowie later called the song one of his favorites in the lede as well, so I did :) It's not a direct quote but let me know if it needs a citation. 87Fan (talk) 17:00, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

[edit]- Cover artwork needs alternative text and a caption reading: "[INSERT FORMAT] cover artwork"
- The genres aren't cited in the article's body, so please remove them.
- Unlink David Bowie as writer
- Remove the other artwork, as one is enough
- Done. I'm sad to lose the alternate artwork but I understand. Also, I see discogs.com lists the genre as Rock and Pop Rock, can we include those genres with citations? (I know it's a qualified source for track listing but didn't know if the rules were different for genres). Thanks, 87Fan (talk) 17:02, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, we can't add the genres because Discogs is not appropriate for genres. Didn't any of the authors write about that?
- I will look. I never really pay attention to genres, so it's possible they have and I just didn't make a note of it. I will add these later if I find them. 87Fan (talk) 18:57, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Song development
[edit]- Please rename the section in "Background and release"
- "Time Will Crawl" was written in mid- to late-1986 at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland by David Bowie, and produced by Bowie and David Richards. → "Time Will Crawl" was written and recorded by Bowie during mid– to late–1986 at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland. He also produced the recording alongside David Richards.(as a citation, please use like in Day-In Day-Out the album liner notes)
- genesis of the lyric → genesis of the lyrics
- recording ... it was a beautiful day → ... to [...]
- screaming - to anyone who would listen - that huge → - to –
- In a contemporary interview, Bowie said the → alternate with "confessed" here
- Bowie also stated at the time → use "he" here for alternation
- Bowie included a new studio recording of "Girls", a song Bowie and Erdal Kızılçay had written for Tina Turner, as the B-side to the single. → "Time Will Crawl" was released in June 1987 by EMI, featuring a cover version of Tina Turner's "Girls" (1987) as B-side.(cite [1] and [8] here + songwriting info is overfluous)
- Done! 87Fan (talk) 18:58, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Music video
[edit]- The music video was directed → An accompanying music video was directed
- though Pope would direct → though he later shot
- The video was shot during rehearsals → The clip was directed during rehearsals
- Year of release in brackets for "Loving the Alien", "Fashion" and "Sons of the Silent Age"
- The dancers from the tour (Melissa Hurley, Constance Marie, Craig Allen Rothwell (Spazz Attack), Viktor Manoel, and Stephen Nichols) all featured in the video. Long time friend of Bowie Toni Basil was responsible for the choreography. The video also features tour guitarist Peter Frampton, though he did not perform on the studio version of the song itself. → The dancers from the tour (remove (Spazz Attack) because it breaks syntax rules) all featured in the video alongside tour guitarist Peter Frampton. Toni Basil, Bowie's long-time friend, was responsible for the choreography.
- Are you sure [1] cites all that?
- David Bowie 1980-1987 (2007). The limited edition 12" single featured a still from the video on its cover. → ...(2007); the limited edition...
- I've made these changes. Yes, [1] has all this information (trust me, I've been dying for a good source for this information). Between information on the single, the album, and the tour, there's a lot there. I'm in heaven :) 87Fan (talk) 18:59, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Critical reception
[edit]- critics consider → [[Music journalism|music critics]] considered
- mid- to late-1980s → - to –
- praised the not only the song's strong production but also its lyrics, saying saying, "the lyric, too, is among the album's best, a pleasing return to a non-linear approach that paints a desolate landscape of poisoned rivers, nuclear devastation and genetic mutation reminiscent of Diamond Dogs." → praised both the track's production and lyrical content, saying, "..."
- You need to summarize AllMusic's review as well, because there definitely some content to be added here
- Done, including incorporating some prose from the AllMusic review. 87Fan (talk) 18:59, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Track listing
[edit]- Unlink Bowie as a songwriter and don't mention his full name
- has lyrics written by David Bowie and music by David Bowie and Erdal Kızılçay → has lyrics and production done by the singer alongside Erdal Kızılçay.
- was remixed by David Richards → no full name
- by David Richards. The "Dance Crew Mix" was remixed by Chris Lord-Alge. → by Richards, and the "Dance Crew Mix" by Chris Lord-Alge.
- A digital downloadable version of all tracks was made available in 2007 → All tracks were made available for [[Music download|digital download]] in 2007.
- Done. 87Fan (talk) 19:00, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Live versions
[edit]- Please rename "Music video" in "Promotion" and put this there as an extra paragraph.
- The song was performed live only in 1987:
On all dates during the Glass Spider Tour - released on Glass Spider (Deluxe Edition) (2007) On the BBC's "Top of the Pops", but as the song had fallen out of the UK Top 40 charts by the time the performance was due to air, it was not shown. The full clip has since been uploaded to YouTube.[1] → "Time Will Crawl" was performed live in 1987 on all dates of his Glass Spider Tour, later released on the deluxe edition of Glass Spider (2007).(cite the liner notes of Glass Spider's deluxe edition here) That same year, Bowie also made an appearance during BBC's "Top of the Pops", but his performance was ultimately not aired on television due to the song leaving the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart at that time. However, his performance was later uploaded onto YouTube.(are you sure [1] cites all this?)
- Done. As above, fortunately [1] does include all this information (even the bit about it being uploaded on YouTube, for instance). It's the best source of information I've found and I've been looking for a long time!! 87Fan (talk) 19:00, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
References
[edit]- You're using the wrong type of citation tables; use "cite news" instead and make sure you have the "publisher" parameter everywhere
- No dead links! Congrats!
- Ah yes, this was one of the first pages I ever started editing all those years ago and I had copied a 'citation' template and never fixed them. Per your feedback, I updated them to either 'cite news' or 'cite books' and added a publisher field for all. 87Fan (talk) 19:02, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
