Origin of the phrase
[edit]No mention of Harlan Howard or U2? It seems unlikely that she picked the song title out of thin air. I would expect that she's referencing Howard's remark that country music is "just three chords and the truth." Or, at the very least, U2's echo of the sentiment in their cover of "All Along the Watchtower" (All I need is a red guitar / Three chords / And the truth).
