I've made a large edit on this. I've tried to keep most of the original article, but tightening it up. I've also added material drom the books mentioned in the references section, especially Gash, Robb and Langdon, who are probably the best available. Please let me know what you think.
Incidentally, there are now two Contarelli Chapel articles - I wrote one called Contarelli Chapel, then fouind out there was already one called Contarelli chapel (what adifference a capital letter can make). What to do, drop mine, or combine? I'm inclined to drop mine and make a redirect, but if anyone wants to try a combine I'm happy with that.

Feel free to edit and fuse the Contarelli Chapel entries. The Hibbard biography intimates the commission was guided by Del Monte, he was part of the San Luigi church hierarchy. I don't think there is documentary evidence. Carravaggisti.
