Ugleh!!

[edit]

This is one ugly article format-wise. The formidable legendary Hughes-y dserves better. User talk: Manytexts 110.33.2.238 (talk) 09:20, 23 April 2011 (UTC) (Yeh, i deserve a password but i forgot it)[reply]

This article already includes the time period when the company was named Summa Corporation, and the company seems to have continuously maintained a distinct identity since then, even when it was a subsidiary of Rouse and GGP. It seems to me that it's just redundant and confusing to have a separate Summa Corporation article. Toohool (talk) 22:58, 31 October 2017 (UTC) Agreed. BelAirWhale (talk) 5:49, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. Summa was much more than just a real estate company, which the current HHC is. One turned into the other, but they are distinct enough in the past in the same way that I wouldn't want to merge Ferranti into Leonardo. Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:15, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

After looking into this some more, I don't think a merge would be right after all. The Howard Hughes Corporation that was spun off from GGP in 2010 was not really the same company as the Howard Hughes Corporation that had existed as a subsidiary of GGP (i.e. the former Summa Corporation). The spin-off included that subsidiary's assets, but also a lot of other properties. The spin-off was originally not even going to be called Howard Hughes, but rather General Growth Opportunities; only later did they decide to attach the Hughes name to it. So I would propose that this article is about the spin-off company, and that the content about everything that happened before 2010 be moved to Summa Corporation (other than some basic background info about where the Hughes name came from).
