Others

[edit]

I suggest to transfer the "Others" section or its listed songs to their respective writer's page, e.g. Domino band and the Pacquiao song does not even relate to the eheads anymore as these songs were produced after the eheads or they were solo efforts (outside the eheads) of the involved member/s.Magasin (talk) 03:58, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

E-Heads, Sandwich, The Dawn, etc.

[edit]

Just a suggestion - it says that when the eheads disbanded, Sandwich was formed.. I'm pretty sure that's incorrect - Sandwich was a band Raimund was in at the same time as the Eraserheads (he thanks his Sandwich band members in the Natin99' album booklet or whatever) --220.233.179.249 11:57, 4 August 2006 (UTC) (entocheets)[reply]

Just some question regarding this line:

Eraserheads' popularity contributed to the resurgence of older bands like After Image and The Dawn.

Did After Image or The Dawn resurged during the popularity of the Eheads? I think that After Image was still popular during that time. Actually, the Eheads borrowed musical instruments from the After Image during their earlier years. In 1995, The Dawn broke up because Jett Pangan gone solo while Eheads was in the peak of their career. Did The Dawn resurged because of the Eheads? Nope. I think that we have to rephrase the sentence and remove the word "resurgence" to make it more NPOV. Thanks! --Jojit fb 02:34, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Dawn is back together again
I know that they are back together again but what I'm questioning is that the The Dawn resurged in the Pinoy rock scene because of the Eraserheads. I think that is incorrect. --Jojit fb 02:10, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings, Jojit. This is eLf ideas, and the sentence in question was my insertion. Yes, I got your point. I agree with your deletion, which made the sense more neutral. Anyway, here is my reason for the insertion:
Being a member of an active band in that era ('90s), I was actively amidst the Alternative-music scene in Metro Manila from 1988 to 2003, and had the chance to play with bands like The Dawn, Eraserheads, The Youth, Alamid, True Faith, and After Image. I even got to converse with most of them. Yes, After Image was existing at the time, while The Dawn was in inactivity with Jett Pangan establishing a solo career and holding a Label Manager position at Viva Records around the same period. Prior to Eraserheads' commercial breakthrough, the band scene in Metro Manila was lackluster. After Image was active but not making waves. When Eraserheads began, in 1993, to make one hit after another (starting with "Ligaya"), the interest of the Filipino masses in band music resurged. In fact, never before the mid-90s did Filipino music listeners, in general, show such patronization for songs composed by bands. Because of this resurgence or, better yet, "explosion" of interest in bands, many earlier bands gained commercial popularity. Bands like WUDS, Alamid, and After Image--who were already known albeit only by a limited audience--had suddenly found themselves in a much better position. In fact, Alamid had its first hit, "Your Love," only after Eraserheads was already making waves. Also because of the interest, DWLA 105.1, which catered primarily to unsigned local bands, rose into prominence. (I think also, we should consider LA 105 as pivotal in putting Filipino Alternative Rock music on the Philippine music map.) Even DWNU 107.5, which seldom aired local bands prior to the "Filipino Alternative-Music Explosion of the '90s," began playing even independent/unsigned artists on a regular basis. Even Jett Pangan admitted, in one of our many conversations (he was the Supervising Producer of my band Half Life Half Death's debut album, Pymyth Prahn [1995, Viva Records]), that Eraserheads' commercial breakthrough opened the commercial doors to the entire underground Philippine Alternative music scene. But, you were correct and I was incorrect: The Dawn did not resurge--at least, not during that period--because of Eraserheads, for I remember now--The Dawn was at the time in disbandment. I also suddenly remembered, during the launching of our debut album on (1)July 31, 1995, at Mayric's, The Dawn was our special guest; but they reformed only for that occasion; Jett Pangan Group was still active at the time; in fact, we performed with them on (2)May 5, 1996, at a Viva promotional gig held at Ayala Town Center in Alabang. My band and Jett Pangan Group were both under Viva Records' Neo label around 1994 onwards. 1(http://elf-ideas.blogspot.com/2005/06/dawn-on-july-31-1995-at-mayricsthe.html) 2(http://halflife.20m.com/pages/1996.html) But, I still think, albeit indirectly, Eraserheads had been pivotal in the renewed interest in the mid-90s for many older bands. In the same vein that, if not for Nirvana (formed in 1987), many bands older than they--like The Lemonheads (1984), Pixies (1986), and Soul Asylum (1983)--might have not achieved commercial status. (Pardon my overindulgence. Hahaha. The topic seemed to have sucked me into those heydays.) --eLf_ideas 18:00, 13 August 2005 (CT)

Incomplete

[edit]

The article is grossly incomplete and "colloquial" when it comes to language. The language in most encyclopedias should be neutral and factual. Please cite some articles that will support about what is written here. And please provide ".ogg" files in the article. Thanks

"I'll fix it more and more, but the .ogg? Can't do that, don't know that, somebody explain? I wish. Pathbinder 02:45, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I've just uploaded some sample audio files to Wikipedia. OGG is just another audio file format, just like MP3, WAV and WMA. OGG is the audio file format used by Wikipedia, because it's royalty-free unlike MP3. Perryv 17:04, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the entry of other rock bands in the mainstream. It's correct. After Image was already a group but they are still unknown to people. Unfortunately no one has the guts to try and be heard because bands before have no idea that alternative rock can be embraced by filipino music lovers. It was the Eraserheads who started it all that made other alternative rock bands to try their own luck. They realized that these new brand of music can also create a place in the mainstream.

Well known bands before are The Dawn, Neocolours, The Hayp Band, Side A and many other highly professional musicians. How would you compete with them? They are reading music notes and guitars licks are way to advance, drummers and bass players have their own solos and singers are hitting extreamly high notes. And you gotta have a raw materials for you songs meaning it should be written really classy with regards of what type of music you are in to. Eraserheads is the band that dilaputated the whole music scene making its transition to what we call original pinoy music. And so other bands such as Color it red, After image, Sugar Hiccups, Agaw agimat and many other alternative rock group have made their way and created their own places in the music industry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.101.171.191 (talk) 09:48, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

[edit]

The last edits were made by user Futuristic rd16. However, all his info only came from this website [1]. I'm not sure if it is reliable, but I think it is best to retain his edits for now. At least we have some info to work on. In the meantime, I'll try to edit the language to make it sound like an encyclopedia article. Moonwalkerwiz 03:07, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually that website is realiable because the guy who owns this archive is a close friend of the eraserheads. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.39.216.71 (talk) 00:17, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for making the language a bit bland for fans, but we have to be NPOV in Wikipedia. Moonwalkerwiz 02:59, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone upload Buddy Zabala's picture, please! Moonwalkerwiz 23:55, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Things to do

[edit]

If you can help me, please do.

  • Put appropriate references on the article
  • Edit the language to make it more NPOV
  • Expand on the "After Eraserheads" section with short articles on each band member after the final break-up, about their own bands and how they view their career as Eraserheads
  • Ask someone to upload Buddy Zabala's picture (If you have one, please upload it now.)
  • Ask someone to upload a picture of the band performing (The main picture is pathetic. Ely Buendia looks like a drunken Filipino action star).
  • Ask someone for Kris Gorra-Dancel's picture
  • Gather materials for a section on the "Eraserheads' Influence on Philippine music" and references on Philippine pop culture - Moonwalkerwiz 05:35, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reference Source

I've updated and expanded the first three Album articles and fixed many incorrect links in this article. I was wondering where the reference for the info on the history of the Eraserheads came from I would like to read it and source the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Berserkerz Crit (talkcontribs) 13:00, 2 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Uncited Statements Candidate for Deletion

[edit]

There are two Eraserheads trivia bits which I found to be generally held untrue when I asked the people in the CIRCUS Mailing List, the official Eraserheads mailing list. These are:

  • Based on a superstition, most of the band's albums have titles containing the letter "C" (Circus, Cutterpillow, Fruitcake) because, supposedly, the lucky letter will increase the albums' chances of selling well. Surprisingly enough they did.
  • The song "Hey Jay" from the album "Circus" was inspired by the Beatles' "Hey Jude" and even had a vocal arrangement similar to that song.

I hope somebody else can produce authoritative documents (official sites, newspapers, interviews, etc) that prove that those two trivia bits are true. Else, they will be deleted in a week.

There are actually three uncited trivia bits there, but only two were found generally untrue for the moment.

Reactions?

PS: I did not put the "citation needed" tags there. Somebody else did, but I think the tags are reasonable.

- Perryv 04:18, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, they may have also gotten this trivia from Wikipedia. Moonwalkerwiz 06:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it's clear to anyone who has listened to "Hey Jay" and "Hey Jude" that the two songs have completely different vocal arrangements. Although I think it is likely that "Hey Jay" was inspired by "Hey Jude," maybe even a kind of parody. Moonwalkerwiz 06:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Trivia, in itself, is mostly frowned by some editors on WP. This is more true if the trivia can't be backed up by credible sources. (This doesn't mean that trivia is not allowed on WP, period, but from my observation the consensus about trivia varies from case to case.) The way I see it, this is the problem with the C-superstition, since it's likely that the Titik Pilipino trivia may have been sourced from WP from the way it was worded. If no one can provide more substantive proof for this trivia, then by all means this should be deleted.
As for the similarities between "Hey Jay" and "Hey Jude", this is something that might qualify as original research since I could not verify this from outside Wikipedia. This, too, qualifies for deletion. --- Tito Pao 07:59, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The C-superstition is correct AFAIK because I've encountered the trivia two times in Philippine media, one in Wowowee where the question What is Eraserhead's lucky letter and the answer was C, and then on an article interviewing Buddy Zabala re Eraserheads. Internet references are really hard to find for Philippine-related articles. =/ Berserkerz Crit 10:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...I didn't know that. Anyway, do you remember the magazine where Buddy mentioned the C-superstition? That should get us started with the references. --- Tito Pao 11:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article Rating

B-class, Top importance. Wow! :-D Perryv 18:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Eraserheads for feature article! (We have a long, long way to go, though.) Perryv, one of these days, I'll give you a barnstar. Moonwalkerwiz 01:05, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. :-) I still have to improve the Cutterpillow and the rest of the articles, though. Perryv 04:20, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Folks, I had to revise the "top" importance thingy; this'll never appear in a mainstream encyclopedia; mid-importance seems OK. --Howard the Duck 04:47, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the famous Howard the Duck's here. Maybe you could help us clean this article Howard, fix the grammar, rearrange the info and stuff. But I also see that you have enough barnstars already, so even if you help, I'm not giving you one. (: Moonwalkerwiz 05:08, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
LOL since I'm famous might as well create my own article :p. As for this article, this looks good enough for GA already. You can tag and add rationales on the different and pics and diffuse the trivias into their appropriate sections, too. --Howard the Duck 08:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my ignorance, but what's "GA"? :-) Perryv 08:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
GA=Good article, so that this would upgraded into GA-Class from B-Class. --Howard the Duck 09:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For Improvement

[edit]

There are a couple of things I'd like to suggest to improve this article.

  • This article is getting too long even though it still doesn't have that much meat in it. I think we should move the whole discography section some place else, like the Nirvana article.
  • I think the article still fails to capture the impact of the band to Philippine pop culture, especially in music. I hope we could gather materials to make a section on that.
  • The fandom is still quite obvious in the grammar.
  • The After Eraserheads section needs to be trimmed down. And the section on each band member should be made balanced. Zabala's section is as shy as him.
  • We need to rearrange the pictures so that it illustrates each section. That means we should get better pictures of the band doing things together or performing live. We can reserve the solo pics for each member's article. The main picture really needs to be changed. It's hard to make out their faces and see that they're youths. (I know this one's difficult because of copyright issues).
  • We need more people working on this one, old E-Heads fans (cause I'm relatively new) who know all the stuff and who have all the stuff on the band.

I've just read this from the link Perryv provided. I'm glad they appreciate our work. http://tikmananglangit.wordpress.com/2007/01/27/eraserheads-on-wikipedia/ To the author, if you're reading this, we need your help. Join Wikipedia, man. Moonwalkerwiz 07:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. For the History section, I suggest following the styles of other artists/bands pages where the History section is divided or subheaded by Albums released or a timeline, and then instead of pics of ely/raimund/marcus/buddy we can have the album covers as images for the History section. When that is done we can move the individual pics to the respective sections of the band members in After Eraserheads section. And get a better photo of Raimund lol.
  2. And then the red links have to be minimized, only wikilink those important and related to Eheads, not everything the Eheads have done (like the jingles) need to be wikilinked. And the Discography section here is more comprehensive than the split article Discography of Eraserheads. The most important here would be making articles for each album.
  3. I am all for making this a Featured article. Btw, about the Pop-U! album, the description of the name lacked relation to Fuck You! as being the message they wanted to convey to those who rejected them. Berserkerz Crit 12:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree on your suggestions. :-) I think the existing History subheadings ("Mainstream Success", "Going International", etc.) are very insufficient to discuss comprehensively the Eheads history and to expand it as well. The discussions are "cramped" within their respective subsections.
We can follow either the Nirvana format or The Beatles format. Or maybe you can think of a better format to follow.
As for the "Pop-U!" ~ "Fuck You!" info, I wanted that to be included in the information about Pop-U!. Everyone knows that the album title is a play on words. However, I haven't found a reference to cite about that for the moment.

Gosh I'm so glad things are moving forward with this article. We have hope for a Featured status Phil band article! PerryV's a godsend haha. Moonwalkerwiz must be so happy as well. And about the Fuck U!, you can just leave the statement interpreting Pop U! as such and then leave a {{Fact}} tag so that who knows, an anon ip who has a ref will add it. Here in Wikipedia, everything's up in the air. Berserkerz Crit 18:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ha ha! :-D I'm not really a godsend, I'm just a "mama send" :-P Anyway, I'm also hoping for an FA for this article. Imagine if The Eraserheads became a featured article on Wikipedia. That would generate some media frenzy, as they would dub this event "yet another milestone in Philippine music history". Ha ha ha, just daydreaming  :-D -- Perryv 03:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, and after the media frenzy, the band members will be so pressured that we'll actually lead them to a reunion concert! Haha! Just imagine, we were the ones who made the Eraserheads reunite because Perryv was sent here by God or by her mama or whoever devil?! All right, that's enough. This is not a forum. Serious editors will kill me. Moonwalkerwiz 06:01, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments? --Perryv 05:06, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. We can start working on this one. It's hard to see where we could encounter problems until we start it. We'll just make adjustments along the way. I think we should redirect the discography, publications and awards to a separate article, like The Beatles discography. The audio samples, we leave them in the main article like The Beatles'. And I also suggest to add more of them, just to show how diverse their music is. We should add songs like "Maskara," and "Andalusian Dog" to show their harder, grittier side. "Maling Akala" and "Policewoman" could show their reggae sound. Plus some songs with surreal lyrics like "Scorpio Rising." The samples should show their musical depth and diversity in English and Filipino. The Influence on popular culture section looks good. We can leave out Lifestyle for the moment. We can gather information on the band's influence on other bands and put it under Music and songwriting. I've read so many band interviews where band members cite Eraserheads as their influence. Zach Lucero, for example, of Imago and Ebe Dancel (obviously!). There should be plenty of resources for the Commerce section. But I think the Internet section is the best idea you've come up with so far, Perryv. If we could show, establish this recent resurgence of the Eraserheads fame that is relected on the internet, that would be great. Maybe there's an article written about that in Philmusic? That's all. Now the most difficult part, doing it. Moonwalkerwiz 05:54, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comment :-) As for PhilMusic, I read editor Jim Ayson's comment in the eheads official mailing list that their site hits rose last january-february because of recent news on and related to the eheads. --Perryv 06:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Initial Draft

[edit]

Eraserheads Draft

I created a raw draft for the "new and improved" Eraserheads article. What do you think? Post your comments and suggestions here. You can also freely modify the draft. --Perryv 06:47, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Started some work on it. I'm very excited. We can revamp this article there in the meantime and then when we're finished, slap the approved draft here and everyone will be surprised at the difference! =D Berserkerz Crit 13:09, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that's great, very great!! :-D I'm going to add fresh information and recast some paragraphs mainly for readability and NPOV purposes. :-) --Perryv 13:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The draft has too many pictures. I think we should only have one picture for each section, one for Early years, one for Breakthrough and fame, and one for International acclaim. I'm comparing it to the The Beatles article. That article has 12 pictures, ours has 10 pictures already, though we haven't filled up the other half yet. I think we should leave the Ultraelectromagneticjam picture for the Early years section to show how the members looked like in their debut. Then Cutterpillow for the Breakthrough and fame, because it turned gold even before it hit the record stores. For the International acclaim section, let's put the Aloha Milkyway album pic since it was release in the Asian region. Moonwalkerwiz 02:16, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake, we should leave Ultraelectromagneticjam and Cutterpillow albums for the breakthrough and fame section. Moonwalkerwiz 02:19, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good job. I just slapped those pictures just to illustrate the idea of an album by album approach to the band's history. I would like to ask you guys to fill some of the album sections with more information as some are pretty thin. It doesn't look good. =/ I'll do more work once finals week are over can't do much now. Berserkerz Crit 11:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ely's Health

[edit]

I was the one who edited out the Ely's health section twice. It just didn't seem to fit. One editor mentioned its importance relating to a possible E'heads reunion. I believe this should have its own section, and it's not reason enough to create a redundant entry on Buendia's health (especially when he has his own page).

I'm refraining from doing any more edits relating to this. Edit wars are not my thing. I've seen a draft on a new Eheads page, and it looks pretty good. Anyway I've explained my side, and you've explained yours, and I think that's fair enough. I hope you understand that my edits were done without any malicious intent, I'm just here to explain why I've done it.121.97.198.40 09:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I understand somewhat your point. I do see the logic in not including it but I think I have a compromise. I'll try to talk to the other editors about it. In the meantime, if you want, you can help edit the draft. We're trying not to change this version anymore instead, we do the change in one big edit after completing the draft. Please do create an account because it would be easier to talk and discuss these issues with us so we can come up with a consensus. Berserkerz Crit 13:15, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2008 Reunion

[edit]

The 2008 Reunion section needs to be revamped. It seems to be disorganized and messy. Or, I think it needs to have its own article. Edraf (talk) 08:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Impact on Philippine Culture/Music

[edit]

Someone should create an article about the Eraserheads' influence and impact on the Philippine Culture/Music. This is actually the only thing missing from the article. I think that if this section is accomplished, it will be an easy way for this article to reach GOOD or better yet FEATURED article status. Edraf (talk) 08:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, we should also cite the band's influences... Magasin (talk) 11:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone want to add the backmasking controversy about the Eraserheads music

[edit]

During the fame and glory of the Eraserheads, there has been a controversy that was exposed by several (fanatically) religious groups. They are proclaiming that Eraserheads are Anti-Christ and several backmasked songs from their album is used as an evidence. The song "Overdrive" can be backmasked by converting to wav and editing the file with the Microsoft Sound Recorder and by selecting the Effects>Reverse Menu box. In a part of the song, when played in reverse, It says "P*ta mo Hesus". more information can be found here [2] Triadwarfare (talk) 14:23, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{editsemiprotected}}

I think this article should be protected for editing by unregistered users. The affected area of the article is in the discography section. Joshua manimtim2 (talk) 06:10, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The {{editsemiprotected}} template is for requesting edits to pages that are already semiprotected, and not for requesting protection; protection requests should be made at WP:RPP instead. Thanks, —SpaceFlight89 10:18, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Band name

[edit]

Eraserheads was never "The Eraserheads", if you want proof go check their albums... they never used the word "The" to associate with their name (contrary to The Beatles, The Who, etc.)...

I have cleared the article of The Eraserheads reference, but the title, being the most important one, remained uneditable... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.36.55.64 (talk) 04:14, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article's Main Title

[edit]

ATTENTION! I am requesting the editing of the main title of the band's Wikipedia article. The name was officially addressed to as the "Eraserheads" (without the definite article 'The'), and NEVER as the "The Eraserheads", nor "Eraserheads!" (with an exclamation point). Thank you. Suerte007
