Notability
[edit]- Osvajaci are generally considered on of the top and most influental acts of the Serbian hard rock / heavy metal scene. Osvajaci are one of few former Yugoslav hard 'n' heavy bands directly influenced by glam metal, as other notable similar sounding acts were always more hard rock oriented.
- Album is mentioned in the Osvajaci section in both EX YU ROCK enciklopedija 1960-2000 and EX YU ROCK enciklopedija 1960-2006 (Encyclopedia of former Yugoslav Rock 1960-2000 and Encyclopedia of former Yugoslav Rock 1960-2006) written by rock journalist Petar Janjatovic.
- The album is an official studio album (not a demo, bootleg, mixtape, unreleased album or promo-only).
- According to the guidelines that were cited, Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Albums, singles and songs, an album must have "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". A listing in a rock encyclopedia is not "significant coverage" of the subject.
- The next section in the Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Albums, singles and songs states: "if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." There is important wording in that passage: "may have sufficient notability". While the band itself may meet the criteria for inclusion the album, as currently presented, does not. The same guideline further says: "Album articles with little more than a track listing may be more appropriately merged into the artist's main article or discography article, space permitting".
- According to the article this album was released by "Take it or Leave it Records" so your comment about "PGP RTB" records does not seem to have relevance. However it is important to also understand that an albums distributor has no bearing on an album being notable.
- To be clear, there currently is no Wikipedia Policy or set of Guidelines for a release distributed by a major label, or a release by a well known artist, to be provided automatic "Notability" status and exclude an article about the release from having to follow guidelines. - You're right, this album was released by Take It Or Leave It Records, previous two albums were released by PGP RTB (or PGP RTS, a successor to PGP RTB) I have understood (from some other discusions on similar subjects) that notability of the record label that released the album is important... What would be "significant coverage"? Ostalocutanje (talk
- The record label is only important in regards to the artist being notable, not their releases being notable. Section 5 of WP:MUSIC#Criteria for musicians and ensembles states that a musician or ensemble is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria: Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
- A release of music, on any media, by any artist, major label or not, must meet the basic criteria at the notability guidelines, with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
- WP:GNG defines the terms of Notability, this includes what you asked: "Significant coverage" means that sources address the subject directly in detail, and no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than trivial but may be less than exclusive. Soundvisions1 (talk) 00:43, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
