==River Terrace in Washington DC]] River Terrace is also a neighborhood in Washington, D.C. This is the only neighborhood in the District of Columbia in which there is no connection to another neighborhood.

the above text was inserted by a previous editor; i feel it doesnt belong in this article as there is a disambig page that covers specific place names. Anlace 06:17, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs to be either renamed or removed

[edit]

As a Quaternary geologist and geomorphologist, it is obvious that this article needs to be renamed. A terrace is a type of geomorphic surface. This surface and the sediments or rock (deposits) forming it are two separate entities, which the designation "terrace deposit" hopelessly confuses. For example the Encyclopedia of Geomorphology defines a fluvial terrace as:

A river terrace is the planar surface that remains after the river, which formed it, incised its former valley floor.

The United States Geological Survey defines a terrace as:

Level or near-level area of land, generally above a river or ocean and separated from it by a steeper slope.

As it now stands, the title of this article, "Terrace deposit", only misleads and confuses people about the what a terrace is. Before any more work can be done on this stub, the name for this article needs to be either changed after people have taken the time to take a look at how the term "terrace" is defined in standard references such the Glossary of Geology and Encyclopedia of Geomorphology or removed and its links all changed to Stream terrace.Paul H.
