Avatar ??
[edit]It is very likely that this film was the basis for James Cameron's Avatar [5]. Many of this film's animated characters translate one-to-one with roles in the Avatar film.
The basic plots of the two films match very closely. Humans, who are in trouble on earth, send a military based expedition to another world. One of the male humans becomes close to a native female "alien" inhabitant. The aliens, who are tied closely to nature and their planet, live in trees and and lead a simple lifestyle. A ruthless human general orders the destruction of the peaceful aliens. The battle is fought mostly in the air, where advanced human machines attack the massively out-gunned aliens. In the end, the rogue human helps to save the aliens. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.108.186 (talk) 04:40, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- Main argument I would put against this theory is that this movie came out in 2007, which is after James Cameron already started production of Avatar. Also, you can probably find a dozen movies/shows/books that follow a synopsis that generic. 68.97.127.144 (talk) 05:06, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Camera?!
[edit]Could someone with a better understanding of CGI rewrite a portion of the article to explain what is meant by "camera". Obviously it means a virtual camera for a secondary perspective and hence parallax required for 3-D, but I don't know much about the technique. Whatever it is they use, it needs to be made clear in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.254.119.62 (talk) 05:48, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's quite simple, you just render each image two times, one for each eye ("camera position") seperatedly; I linked the word "stereoscopic". You might also find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_film#Polarization_systems interesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.119.85.1 (talk) 15:47, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Original 3d movie?
[edit]As soon as I started seeing trailers for this movie, I knew it was so incredibly familiar... years and years and years ago, there was a 3d-cg short... somewhere in the ballpark of 3 to 5 minutes. Much of this movie's plot is a direct borrow from the original... something strange in the sky, mala's fascination with invention and the creation of the telescope... though, she took a glider in defiance of her father's wishes, and was chased by the larger ship with four fins... it even makes a grasp for her, but fails. Finally she reaches a pinnacle, floats to the top, and raises the telescope. She resolves the strange thing in the sky at which point the view switches and we see a massive ship slide into view... to close with a view of the american flag, albeit with 1000s of stars on it.
For the life of me, I can't find any mention of this original ANYWHERE. Please someone tell me they remember the title can point to it posted somewhere.
