Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on September 18, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that 2009 Michigan Wolverines starting quarterback Tate Forcier got his nickname from the 1991 movie Little Man Tate?
Current status: Good article

This has to be the longest article for someone who has accomplished nothing notable on wikipedia. Is wikipedia going to include the college careers of every college player in NCAA history? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.7.162.223 (talk) 07:23, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Initial notability considerations

[edit]

In the process of editing the page. Forcier is the starting quarterback for the winningest team in College Football history - he certainly merits a page.

Tate's affiliation with the University of Michigan's football program has ended as of 1/12/11, I have added to the information in his 2010 season to reflect this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.167.22.249 (talk) 20:15, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA considerations

[edit]

I'd be reluctant to pass this as a GA right now only due to stability. He's now played three games in college football, meaning that the article is going to change fairly rapidly over the next few months. It can always be re-nommed in January. Wizardman 15:23, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I actually don't expect that the article will change much. Although he is a good quarterback, I don't expect him to be All-conference as a freshman. Even if he has post season honors, that does not make him much different than other players like Manny Harris. He will have some stats, but that is no different than any other active athlete that you see at FAC. What changes do you expect that are different than any other active athlete?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 16:07, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just worried because he hasn't had much of a career yet. I'll defer to Giants. To me it's just a question of there being a double-edged sword. If there's too much updating it may not be stable, if there's no updating then it's not complete. So long as you hold the middle ground it should be okay. Wizardman 17:57, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to have a WP:PROSELINE problem when I do a lot of inseason editing for athletes. I haven't added anything about his three games so far, but up to the start of the season it is exemplary in terms of its breadth and depth. I really think if an active athlete is notable, he should be eligible for GA regardless of his experience, but I too will defer to the opinions of others. I will not take this to GAR or anything if it is rejected for prematurity.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 20:38, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I feel I should comment as the soon to be reviewer (I'm about to start it). I'll be reviewing the article as it it now, although I do agree that it could become unstable at some point because not only is he the QB at Michigan but he's a freshman and at such a prostigious program that's unheard of, which IMO makes this a prime vandalism and unsourced edits target.--Giants27(c|s) 19:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]

This article was nominated for good article status. The review began on September 21, 2009. Below is an evaluation of the article, according to the six good article criteria.

I'll be reviewing this article for GA quality.--Giants27(c|s) 20:15, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1. Well written?:

Prose quality:
Manual of Style compliance:
The sentence, Forcier began working with Marv Marinovich as a third-grader makes no mention of who Marinovich is. It also sounds like a thought more than a sentence.
Now explained.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 23:59, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect.--Giants27(c|s) 00:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
after football powerhouse Mater Dei High School, which is Matt Leinart's alma mater, recruited Jason. Who's Jason? His brother I assume but that's not really clear.
Explained.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 00:00, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect.--Giants27(c|s) 00:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The family continued to run the San Diego Bus and Limosine Company, the family business in San Diego. Remove "continued" as the company at this point has yet to be mentioned.
O.K.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 00:02, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect.--Giants27(c|s) 00:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2. Factually accurate and verifiable?:

References to sources:
Refs #1 and 21 are lacking info (i.e. retrieval date, source etc.)
All refs now fixed.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 00:25, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect.--Giants27(c|s) 00:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Citations to reliable sources, where required:
No original research:

3. Broad in coverage?:

Major aspects:
Focused:

4. Reflects a neutral point of view?:

Fair representation without bias:
I don't like the use of "Tate". Change to something else.
Since the article mentions his three brothers and father, I used his first name. I was going to go back to his last name when I build up his career section, unless his brother becomes a coach or something.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 00:25, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point, the Tate's can stay since Chris and Jason are mentioned along with Mike and saying Forcier could confuse the reader.--Giants27(c|s) 00:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

5. Reasonably stable?

No edit wars, etc. (Vandalism does not count against GA):

6. Illustrated by images, when possible and appropriate?:

Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
Images are missing alt text.
WP:ALT text is done.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:47, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overall:

Pass or Fail:
I'm placing this on hold to allow for the changes to be made.--Giants27(c|s) 20:15, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm now passing the article, good work.--Giants27(c|s) 18:32, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel the final result of this review has been in error, you may request a reassessment. If the article failed to attain Good Article status after a full review, it may be easier to address any problems identified above, and simply renominate it.

New main image

[edit]

I personally prefer the old main image during the Notre Dame game to the current one from the Delaware State game. My first thoughts of the new image are him doing a Michael Jackson impersonation with the gloved hand and standing on his toes.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 00:28, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I personally like the new image, because it shows Forcier more prominently instead of him on just the left side of the image.--Giants27(c|s) 01:17, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One image too many?

[edit]

Does anyone agree the cluster of three images towards the bottom of the article is overkill? I think one should be removed and one moved to a different part of the article. --MichiganCharms (talk) 07:27, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Concur. The clustering makes the article look weird. Once it's expanded the moved image can be moved back, but until then something needs to be moved.--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 14:05, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
