Install Issues
[edit]I tried to download EasyTAG and the website pointed to:
easytag
There downloads are indicated at "Sourceforge Download Area:"
showfiles
That page states: "You have selected the 1.1 release. Please choose the file that best matches your architecture or operating system from the list of files contained in this release. "
The choices are:
easytag-1.1-1_fc2.i386.rpm Mirror 710697 1802 i386 .rpm easytag-1.1-1_fc3.i386.rpm Mirror 709716 6139 i386 .rpm easytag-1.1-1_fc4.i386.rpm Mirror 699032 1282 i386 .rpm easytag-1.1-1_mdk101.i586.rpm Mirror 801366 892 i386 .rpm easytag-1.1-1.src.rpm Mirror 1117482 940 Any Source .rpm easytag-1.1.tar.bz2 Mirror 1112302 5829 Any Source .bz2
It is far from clear how one is to select what file to download.
What is meant by "architecture"?!? Few would know the architecture of their system. Do they mean OS? If so, what file is for what OS? As it happens, I do not recognize any of these files as being Windows install files... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.183.108.36 (talk) 04:48, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Examples
[edit]Add examples of tag editors for the different file types.
add comparison
[edit]Need a tagger comparison entry ala "media players", etc.
TagScanner and programming libraries
[edit]I think we should at least mention TagScanner 5.0 (http://www.xdlab.ru/) imho one of the best (freeware) tag editors out there, supporting ogg, mp3, wma and tags from id3v1 to id3v2.4, ape, vorbis comments, maybe others. Also a note of tag-related programming libraries might help, I can't help here but I know there are dozens of a varying degree of completeness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.50.66.5 (talk) 06:08, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Cell phone identification - hash?
[edit]I don't know much about this topic, but it seems to me that when you identify a song by recording it on your cell phone and sending it off to compare against known songs, it seems like more of an acoustic fingerprint kind of ID, rather than hash. 2_of_8 20:50, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Remove the list of taggers
[edit]People keep adding and removing "spam" links to the list of taggers. I think those links are not necessary for the article -- if people want to see articles about specific taggers on WP, they can use the Tag editors category. Would anybody object to removing the whole Taggers section? Luks (talk) 21:29, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- i would ;)
- not every tagger has a separate page, and not every should have one. the list is a bit of a mess, though - ideally it would be a table of comparison, similar to Comparison_of_network_monitoring_systems and other such tables. for audio tag editors, there could be two tables - editors & libraries. common columns could be (in random order) : name (linked to homepage), licence, price, tag versions supported (each getting a separate column : id3v1.0, id3v1.1, id3v2.2, id3v2.3, id3v2.4, ogg vorbis - etc), platforms supported (each getting separate column : windows, linux, macosx, fbsd - etc), language written in (if relevant : c++, c#, python - etc), interface (two columns - gui & cli).
- i think such a table would be quite useful when comparing software, at least i find these tables on wikipedia highly useful.

- Agree, though no ones bothered to do one have they ...as per usual. I'd do one if I could spare the hours and knew enough on the subject to start with. But alas, I don't, so can't see one ever happening unfortunately. Jimthing (talk) 11:03, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I’ve made a list with only specialized taggers with their own ’pedia articles in this revision, and many warnings (in comments) to not include external links; hopefully this is useful. (For reference, this revision has the list with external links.)

Move to Metadata editor
[edit]I would like to suggest moving this article to Metadata editor, which is a more general term used to describe all tools used to edit metadata in files (including pictures and documents), while "tag editor" in usually used for describing software that supports editing metadata of multimedia file formats only. Split page
[edit]I think music tag editors and image tag editors are both worthy of their own separate pages, and don't really have much to do with each other. Also I think a more succint term is tagger rather than tag editor Ijabz (talk) 10:02, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. This article already fails notability mandate of Wikipedia; put it another, it does not deserve its own article. So, please think of more pressing concerns than a split that might bring about the doom of the article. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 15:02, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
