Requested move
[edit]Tōzai Line (JR West) → JR Tōzai Line
The official name of the line includes the "JR" prefix, and you can see the name "JR Tozai Line" used on the JR West website: [1]. The article was erroneously moved, and it appears the editor thought the "JR" prefix was a disambiguator and not part of the official name. Naming convention for Japanese rail lines -both official and Wikipedia- can be confusing, but here's the basic rule of thumb on how JR clears naming conflicts:
- If the JR line name existed before another line with the same name, there is no prefix (see Nara Line).
- If the JR line name came after another line with the same name, the JR prefix is part of the official name (see JR Kobe Line, JR Kyoto Line, JR Takarazuka Line).
- Sometimes, they just stick "JR" on the name for the hell of it (see JR Yumesaki Line).
Tozai Line would fall under #2. --Ytny (talk) 23:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the enumerated summary. I was about to write that precedence from an earlier discussion would indicate that we should move this article to Tōzai Line, and create Tōzai Line (disambiguation) for the others. That's based on the premise that JR is default (as in station names), which is slightly different from your #1. But, as the case of Nara Line hinged on the official name (#2, as you pointed out), then, moving this article to its official name at JR Tōzai Line seems logical. Neier 00:40, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, You probably noticed that I just macron'd Tōzai Line and most of the contents of that page. The macronization is not at issue in this move request, so, I figured it was not a problem. Neier 00:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I was actually wondering about the macron - if the official JR West literature uses "JR Tozai Line" with no macrons, do we still follow WP:MOS-JA? JR can be pretty inconsistent with romanisation - you'll see macrons on station platform signs (the ones that show neighboring stations), but won't for the station name on the building, etc.
- Also, I should clarify that by "naming convention", I meant the JR naming convention, not Wikipedia article naming convention. Ytny (talk) 01:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- My opinion on that is if very inclusionist. If there is one official instance of a macron (no matter how many instances without), then I feel that the company knows that the macron is correct, and just hasn't had the time or the motivation to update the rest of their signage and literature. - And, here's a picture that makes it ok: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ja/5/5d/Shin-Fukushima_stn.jpg - Neier 03:08, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I was bold and moved it as there doesn't seem to be any reason to not move it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:30, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- It seems that I moved this article, but I don't remember that. About "JR", Tokaido Main Line, Yokosuka Line and etc. don't have "JR" on its head, so I seemed to think "JR" wouldn't be needed. If this line should be "JR -", all other lines should be. (It seemes that lines in Kansai area only have "JR" as a prefix on this site.) About macrons, those who search throughout Wikipedia won't be able to put characters by macrons in "search" form. And line name with macrons can be written in page itself. So I would move this page to Tozai Line, if nobody was discussing that. --Izumi5 08:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand you - the difference between this line and Yokosuka Line is that "JR" is part of the official name of the former, but not the latter. Look at how lines are listed at JR West's official pages for Kyobashi Station and Kyoto Station.
- You can read my initial comment on which lines carry "JR" and which lines don't - the ones that do are all line names that have popped up in the last 10 years.
- Also, I'm not a huge fan of macrons in article titles, mostly because it's extra trouble to type in and to set up catsort. But until WP:MOS-JP is changed, macrons should be in article names. Ytny (talk) 16:51, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
