too much information?

[edit]

I think this page has got too much in it for a disambiguation page. Much of what is covered here is also covered (better) at Superman in popular culture. I think it needs to be pared down just to what people are likely to be looking for when they type in "Superman". For everything else, we can direct people to the "popular culture" article. I've tried to split the entries down into categories. The persistent Roller Coaster has been added to the Popular Culture list, but I added back the cycling position by concatenating the different stunt variants. I made the literature/philosophy the first entry as that is the oldest usage of the word. --Jason Kirk 13:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comic Book History

[edit]

Is there a chapter that discusses the specfic history of the Superman in his current continuity? The history as told by the current run of comic books, I'm refering too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.177.61 (talk) 03:15, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

Descriptions are a little long

[edit]

They should be shorter, as I said in my edit summary. So for this reason, I have tagged the page for cleanup. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 06:04, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "Dino Merlin" thing

[edit]

At the bottom of this "article" in the "See Also" section, the last line reads:

  • Supermen; includes a song titled "Supermen" by Dino Merlin

Precisely that. It appears to me that this belongs in the "Music" section, and even the "Albums" sub-section. However, I have no further idea what the hell this is (e.g., who is the artist? The Wikilinked-in article on Merlin doesn't help me, either). Could somebody who does fix this up? Please? --Ted Watson (talk) 18:52, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since it is not also known as "Superman" it should stay there in accordance with WP:D#Partial title matches. Hang on, I'll do something. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:21, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Joe Brooks song

[edit]

I myself know nothing about this song or Joe Brooks (assuming he is not the same-named creator of "You Light Up My Life" in the 1970s). However, the fact of the matter is that many such disambig. pages in Wikipedia have entries with no Wiki-article whatsoever linked in, including this one. I'll admit that those entries here that are not Wikilinked themselves have a secondary term within the entry Wikilinked, but as justification for the item's inclusion they seem to be stretches to me. You will indeed find quite a good number of disambig. pages in Wiki that have entries which bear no Wikilinks themselves. So that is not a good reason for deleting this. Find another or leave it in. Or do a wholesale cleaning of other disambig. pages. --Ted Watson (talk) 21:25, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am an editor who has dedicated myself to cleaning and updating all Wikipedia pages, especially dabs, like this one. Let me just tell you this: there doesn't have to be an article for that entry, however, if it isn't mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia it doesn't belong here. It's not that hard to understand. So yes, you could say I'm doing "a wholesale cleaning". Good enough? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:33, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would absolutely be "good enough" except that your edit summary on initially removing the line in question read, "no article=no entry" in direct contradiction to your "there doesn't have to be an article for that entry" here. I am quite sick and tired of editors who change their positions after I have refuted them, never acknowledging that their initial statement was wrong and indeed implying (and sometimes coming right out and saying, but that doesn't apply here) that they never said what I had refuted. --Ted Watson (talk) 20:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When I said "no article=no entry", I also meant that there is no page that hints the existence of that particular item. While there doesn't have to be an article on the subject, it has to be mentioned at least somewhere on Wikipedia. My mind has not been made up, I still stand by what I said. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 20:21, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

O.K., I'll admit that the limited space available for edit summaries has resulted in my seeming to say something that I did not intend due to oversimplification. I do get your point now. --Ted Watson (talk) 21:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad we could come to an understanding. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buddhism

I addressed Jwy's concerns. Mitsube (talk) 04:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What in blazes are you talking about?! You didn't address anything as far as I can tell. This appears to be but a bad faith revert. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I linked to another article which defines and uses the term ... did you look at the diffs? Mitsube (talk) 05:02, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but none of those mentioned the term at all. Closest link I could find was Tathāgata, but even that you didn't use (and no, the redirect Tathagata doesn't count, read MOS:DABRL). The other problem with your edit was the overlinking (MOS:DAB#Individual entries covers that). Lastly, always leave an edit summary when you use the undo feature on a good faith change. People may get the wrong idea if you neglect to do this. There's a reason why that message appears: "If you are undoing an edit that is not vandalism, explain the reason in the edit summary rather than using only the default message."; that's all I have to say about that. The Superman Dance

[edit]

I'm pretty certain that "The Superman" is also a dance routine/choreography (Google and Youtube yield many results, but I don't know if there's a known creator/developer of it nor if it's trademarked). It's not listed here nor can I find an article about it here and I was actually looking for said and more information about it (so I can't create a WP article about it and don't feel comfortable adding a red link here). For trivia, in popular culture it's (also) referenced in "Melissa & Joey" episode "The Chaperones". Perhaps someone with knowledge about it could add an article? Thanks. Why are certain other shows not linked here?

[edit]

Why is Adventures of Superman (TV series) for example not linked here? Or Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

They do not start with the word "Superman", but just now while attempting to find the first show, I followed the path of: Google "Superman" > Superman > Superman (disambiguation)

If there is no objection then I will proceed to add them. Mike Richardson (talk) 17:03, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They are not linked here, and should not, because they are not titled Superman (one word). This is a disambiguation page, intended to list all possible topics of the term "Superman"; see WP:PARTIAL. What you are looking for is Superman (franchise). InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:57, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
