[edit]Information to add to this article: the etymology of the place name "Sumirago." This article cannot be considered to be encyclopedic if such basic information is not included.
From the Italian-language Wikipedia article:
- Salmoirago o Salmorago, documentato in atti notarili già nel secolo XII. Salmoirago, oggi Sumirago, è stato ricondotto al personale gallico Solimariacum e interpretato come «Sameracus» toponimo derivato dal personale latino Samerius adattato in seguito in Salmerius oppure con il soprannome del capostipite che svolgeva il mestiere di salatore di carni o pesce. Il cognome Salmoiraghi deriva proprio da questo toponimo.
