Marital status

[edit]

Hi AradhanaSharon and other editors who have been on a run deleting content regarding the subject's marital status! I have been reverting your changes because you have either not backed your editing with a credible source or that you have assumed the content I have added is false. But, I have cited credible sources (newspapers, The New Indian Express and Bangalore Mirror) that clearly talk about the divorce having finalized. So, please refrain from deleting that content. If you find an article that says they have reconciled, please do add. But, do not delete the original content because "separation", "court order" and "alimony", as the sources cited show, has happened. Editor5454 (talk) 07:10, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DOB

[edit]

Since this page had been target of changes to DOB, do we know whether there are sources backing 1973? If so, then we will have to add both 1971 and 1973. If not, then nothing to be changed. -- DaxServer (talk) 15:48, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SudeepSudeepa – His stage name is now Kiccha Sudeepa and that is how he is credited in Kannada films. (Kempe Gowda, Vishnuvardhana, Maanikya, Ranna, here in Kotigobba 2, Hebbuli, The Villain, Kotigobba 3, and now Vikrant Rona). Those teasers and his Twitter account (here) mention both names. A similarly titled article Dhananjay (actor) was moved to Dhananjaya (actor).

  1. See this: Google Sudeepa search.
  1. Note He was only credited by this name (Sudeep no 'a') from approx. 1997-2010 and by Sudeepa from 2011 to present (in all Kannada films and some non-Kannada films). The name Sudeepa is also apparent in non-Kannada films such as Eega, Mudinja Ivana Pudi and Dabangg 3. Notable exceptions include Puli and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (both are not Kannada though), where he was credited as just Sudeep. As of late, he is credited in Kannada as Sudeepa as stated above. DareshMohan (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Comment: Is adding an 'a' a Kannada name convention? Vishnuvardhan name has 'a' here. DareshMohan (talk) 18:40, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The reason for so much difference in the search might also be because Wikipedia still uses "Sudeep". So, articles continue to use that. Ajay Devagan & Devgn used to have similarly huge difference until Devgn became more common ( maybe partially after Wikipedia also changed it). " Sudeepa" seems better since the blue ticked twitter account ( which the actor uses) has "Sudeepa" . Further, in last 10 years, except 2 non Kannada movies, all uses "Sudeepa". Google search may not be accurate metric - it includes articles before 2011 also when Sudeep was correct. Further, general observation is that until wikipedia changes, most of the articles won't use it. Above all, when actor himself uses "Sudeepa" in most places, no harm in changing it since Google articles should be secondary source and the actor's official profile should be primary source. Kataariveera (talk) 14:11, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DareshMohan: Do not modify other person's comment. You added Support here, when Kataariveera should be mentioning that. As for "Sudeepa" being used by the subject's official handle is not be a valid argument since we are dealing with WP:COMMONNAME here not official name, otherwise Germany article would have been moved to Deutschland and Mahatma Gandhi would have been to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:53, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem ask Katari Veera to make his vote more clearer. DareshMohan (talk) 18:54, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: Also, sir why are you not considering the fact that he is credited as "Sudeepa"? So is Kiccha Sudeep (ಕಿಚ್ಚ ಸುದೀಪ್) also returning more hits than Kiccha Sudeepa (ಕಿಚ್ಚ ಸುದೀಪ) in Kannada? DareshMohan (talk) 18:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, why can't other users clarify whether the 'a' at the end of Sudeepa is his stage name or a nickname by fans? DareshMohan (talk) 18:59, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1) The two examples I gave above clears why WP:COMMONNAME should persist, over official handles and/or what is used in a specific scenario. I'm not denying that he may have been credited as 'Sudeepa', but at present 'Sudeep' seems more common.
2) Also how are you judging the credits? It should be in English for WP:COMMONNAME to work in English Wikipedia. An English transliteration from a Kannada source (film or otherwise) wouldn't work.
3) Kiccha Sudeep likewise has higher hits than Kiccha Sudeepa in Google, but why are we even discussing it when the move discussion is Sudeep→Sudeepa.
4) Another thing that I find rather odd is that Sudeepa is also the feminine form of the masculine given name Sudeep. We should be wary about that as well.
- Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:27, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When he is credited in films, he is credited as "Kiccha Sudeepa" first in Kannada and then in English with the 'a' at the end. When a well known film like Dabangg 3 in the intro credits lists his name second as "Sudeepa", it is clear that he has changed his stage name. This source and this source show that worldwide, his name has changed. DareshMohan (talk) 21:09, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1) Review of Ranna. Full article says Sudeepa.
2) Review of Pehlwaan, Paliwaan Hindi version. Full article uses Sudeepa.
3) Gender of name is not relevant as names can be both boy and girl names.
4) Recent news with the 'a'.
5) If you think the name should not be changed per Twitter, why was Dhananjay (actor) moved to Dhananjaya (actor) and Naga Shourya to Naga Shaurya?
6) There is some double standard as Katari Veera mentioned because this page was not moved. The trailer of Vikrant Rona uses both names (Sudeepa in the video, Sudeep in the video name).
7) Can we include Sudeepa somewhere in the article? Best insight will come from Kannada users. DareshMohan (talk) 21:24, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DareshMohan: "Can we include Sudeepa somewhere in the article?" − Yes, that can be done in the lead in my opinion, for example in the lead sentence → Sudeep Sanjeev (born 2 September 1971),[1][2] known mononymously as Sudeep or Sudeepa. "Best insight will come from Kannada users" - I do not agree with this preference, since all the sources from different background should be given equal importance when it comes to WP:COMMONNAME
"If you think the name should not be changed per Twitter, why was Dhananjay (actor) moved to Dhananjaya (actor) and Naga Shourya to Naga Shaurya?" - Let's concentrate on this specific topic instead of whataboutism. As I said before, English WP:COMMONNAME doesn't need to match with the official name of the subject, it just have to be the most common name in reliable sources widely covered. As for the gender part, in northern ares, I have come across only females named Sudeepa, though it is largely a case of transliteration, I'm sure the IAST format of the male and female forms of the name would be a little different everywhere between the genders, anyway it is kinda a moot point since the name would be largely dependent on the WP:COMMONNAME, which is still Sudeep per the searches. Possibly Sudeepa can be the one in recent future, but not at the moment. I'll link this to WP:INB so that more people can provide their opinion. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:27, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1. Link of Times of India article from 2017 where actor speaks about change in English spelling according to numerology

https://m.timesofindia.com/entertainment/telugu/movies/news/sudeep-takes-to-numerology/amp_articleshow/15103799.cms

2. In Kannada, adding "a" doesn't always mean change in gender. Kataariveera (talk) 02:27, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's 2012 article ( not 2017 as wrongly mentioned). It's been a decade since he has changed the spelling. He is commonly referred as "Sudeepa" in English Kataariveera (talk) 02:44, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is now clear from that numerology source that Veera Parampare was the first film to credited him as Sudeepa since the source mentions director S. Narayan. DareshMohan (talk) 02:57, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
a) The analogy that we are dealing in Commonname and not official is correct but for that purpose rejecting his Twitter handle may not be right because his twitter says "Kichcha Sudeepa" - please note that his not his official name (which is still Sudeepa Sanjeev). So his twitter handle is an indication of the name which he is more popular - the common name ( and not his official spelling). So Kichcha Sudeepa will his common name (or the the name with which he wants people to recognize him). Saying that as is his official name is incorrect.
b) The no. of google hits with articles post 2012 only has to be used for comparing the numbers (since upto 2012 all articles will be using "Sudeep" only as that was then the correct spelling)
c) As per link attached earlier, he has changed his spelling from "Sudeep" to "Sudeepa" as per numerology ( and which also according to regional norms do not change to female name by adding "a"). What was the norm followed in case of actors ( say Ajay Devagan) who changed their spelling? When did the name change reflect - was it done after google search showed more hits with new spelling surpassed the no. of hits with old spelling. Please someone clarify. How long it took to change to reflect the revised spelling. Kataariveera (talk) 17:51, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I was referring to the name in the Official Twitter (or any other SM) handle, not his birth name. Also, I have removed one of your (Support), since we write support/oppose once. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:58, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok.. What is your stand with respect to other issues - what happens when an actor announces he changes the spelling according to numerology? Kataariveera (talk) 02:42, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My stance is to wait for it to become the most common name. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:18, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: At what date was Ajay Devgan → Ajay Devgn. And when did that name become the common name? DareshMohan (talk) 04:58, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Examples of numerology name changes:
  • Tamanna → Tamannah
  • Nitin → Nithiin
  • AR Murugadas → AR Murugadoss
  • Omkar → Ohmkar
DareshMohan (talk) 23:58, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In 2017, 8 years after Ajay Devgn changed his name. Move discussion here, before that a move without consensus was reverted. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:31, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Failed verifications for the chess scandal

[edit]

The cited article doesn't say Sudeepa cheated, it only accuses Nikhil Kamath. The chess profile page doesn't mention any suspension, and it's also Nadiadwala's profile and not Sudeepa's. I'm not familiar with the details of this affair, but given the highly negative nature of the claims, the sourcing definitely doesn't meet basic BLP standards. 62.73.69.121 (talk) 12:07, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello team, I noticed an error in the information provided in this page "Sudeep Sanjeev (born 2 September 1971)". So, to give you a brief context, the actual Date of Birth of Mr.Sudeep is 02 September 1973, but in this article it is mentioned as Sep 02 1971, which is factually wrong. As he recently celebrated his 50th birthday among thousands of fans on 02 september 2023 (videos avalilable on Youtube) how can he be 52 already? So please grant me the access to rectify it, or you can please do it on your own as well as I have fact checked it with the closest family members of Mr.Sudeep.

Thanks in advance Vikyram (talk) 15:12, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. The article cites two reliable sources for his date of birth. The Indian Express article of 2 September 2021 is clearly titled "On Sudeep's 50th birthday, five films that made him a force to reckon with"[1] Conversely you are making unsubstantiated claims, without any WP:Reliable sources - YouTube is generally not considered a reliable source, even if you had provided links to it. - Arjayay (talk) 15:28, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, there is an interview source in which the doctor/nurse who delivered Sudeepa agreed that he indeed was born in 1971. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:28, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

endorsements

In addition to his acting career, Sudeepa has been involved in endorsing online gaming platforms such as Rummy Circle Through his endorsements, he has contributed to the promotion and popularity of these gaming platforms, engaging with audiences and encouraging participation in online gaming experiences.
