Has just had....

[edit]

"has just had a heavy boiler and mechanical overhaul lasting just over 5½ years." - reading this article from cold, it seems to me that this could be worded in a different way to indicate when the activity took place? I don't know enough about the subject to do this myself, but perhaps "...underwent a heavy boiler and mechanical overhaul from January xxxx to July xxxx"?ColourSarge 17:22, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shed code

[edit]

The only online source for SR shed code 'BAT' I can find is this blog, which looks quite convincing but has no indication of authorship or sources of information. Where does this info come from? -- Verbarson  talkedits 10:02, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Verbarson: The Southern Railway did not use shed codes, although some of its predecessors did. Codes such as BAT for Stewarts Lane (others include AFD = Ashford, BPL = Barnstaple, BAS = Basingstoke etc.) were devised by the RCTS for their own use, primarily in their monthly subscription-only journal Railway Observer. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:25, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64: Thanks. I have removed the mentions from the article. Would the info in the blog be coming from RCTS sources, do you think? -- Verbarson  talkedits 18:55, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It might be put together from RCTS-published material. Or it might be from personal observations. It's probable that some locospotters used the RCTS shed codes as a convenient mnemonic before the BR codes were introduced. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
