Best-ever season

[edit]

Don't think 98-99 was their best ever season. They also came third back in the early 70s, under Willie Ormond, when Henry Hall was playing, behind Celtic and Aberdeen and ahead of Rangers! PatGallacher 2005 July 9 10:04 (UTC)

Are Livingston not also unbeaten at home in European competition?

The Richard Thompson reference

[edit]

The actual intro went on to say that St. Johnstone lives on mostly in the name of the football club "so inept that those who don't live in the area often think the full name is 'St. Johnstone-Nil'"

Notable Former Players

[edit]
  • John Brogan (record goal scorer)
  • Alex Ferguson
  • Sandy McLaren (capped for Scotland)
  • Drew Rutherford (record number of appearances)

Sergei Baltacha Roddy Grant John Lambie Alan Main John O'Neil Jim Weir Paul Wright Nick Dasovic Danny Griffin George O'Boyle Kenny Aird Fred Aitken Willie Coburn John Connolly Henry Hall

To Do list

[edit]

I've added a "to do" list after getting a few ideas from the York City F.C. article which gained featured article status. Please add any other ideas to it, or even better, work on the points already listed ;-). If anyone has a particular interest in working on any of the "to dos" leave a note here so others will know you are already covering that point.Grievous Angel 17:38, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Image-St Johnstone FC logo.jpg

[edit]

Image:Image-St Johnstone FC logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Club kit colours in the infobox

[edit]

I've attempted to change the kit diagrams to match the current kit. If it can be improved any, please do so, I can't find the guide page to how it gets done. See the many photos on the official site for how the strips look in the "real world". Below is the code for how it was before (just in case it is needed in future):

pattern_la1=_whiteshoulders|pattern_b1=_whiteshoulders|pattern_ra1=_whiteshoulders| leftarm1=0000FF|body1=0000FF|rightarm1=0000FF|shorts1=FFFFFF|socks1=0000FF| pattern_la2= _whiteshoulders|pattern_b2=|pattern_ra2= _whiteshoulders| leftarm2=FFFFFF|body2=FFFFFF|rightarm2=FFFFFF|shorts2=0000FF|socks2=FFFFFF| —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grievous Angel (talkcontribs) 21:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up

[edit]

The following players were removed from the squad by an anonymous editor today, but their articles still need de-Saints-ified:

Record defeat

[edit]

For a long time the article has stated that Cowdenbeath inflicted Saints' record defeat, when actually it was Johnstone that conceded the twelve goals. - Dudesleeper talk 19:16, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Managers

[edit]

I am currently working on a "Managers of St Johnstone F.C." article. My main source is a series of articles from the official club match programmes of the late 1980s which takes it up to Alex Totten. This series of articles starts with David Taylor as the first manager which contradicts the current section on here which the new seperate article will greatly expand on. According to the current article, there was two managers before David Taylor, so which is correct? What was the actual status of Peter Grant and Jimmy Buchan? --Grievous Angel (talk) 06:34, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Founding father

[edit]

Interesting article on Scotland's People [1] which may be useful in editing the early history of the club. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 15:14, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 20 January 2016

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved. There is a consensus that the proposed title is more common in reliable sources and in line with what the MoS says for British English. The sole oppose makes a valid point – consistency – but ultimately in this case that is outweighed by the support arguments. Jenks24 (talk) 12:19, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– to remove the dot from "St." per wikipedia naming convention and per the club's own website http://www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:31, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - I'm not sure I understand what you are saying Stevie. As I observed above, the MoS is actually quite clear about convention in British English of not using a full stop when the abbrevation finishes with the last letter of the full word. Also, I am not sure I understand how the St Mirren conversation is relevant at this stage as that is still an open RM. Fenix down (talk) 09:09, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All I'm saying, the same as the MoS, is that we should be consistent so if we remove one full stop, then we should remove them all. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 11:37, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Vandalism

[edit]

I have been loathe to do this but the persistent vandalism by user 81.154.241.99 on this page suggests a form of temporary protection for the page is required. CoatbridgeChancellor (talk) 14:40, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CoatbridgeChancellor (talk) 20:59, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: requests for increases to the page protection level should be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 22:32, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, this is a WP:RPP case I've had before. Mostly, an administrator would decline your request citing there isn't enough activity to justify the protection. A better reason for protection would be if multiple IPs were vandalizing the page, preferably at least 3 IPs or new users. I am not sure how far back the admins look to determine this, though. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 22:34, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the prompt response jd22292. I appreciate the comments you have made here and on my own page. I will refrain from making any further reverts until this is resolved. Hopefully your intervention will be successful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CoatbridgeChancellor (talkcontribs) 22:49, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have a feeling this IP is removing some players as the players he's removing are on loan to other teams. Then again, not all of the players they are removing are even on loan right now. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 02:13, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@CoatbridgeChancellor: It seems the IP has stopped for now. I've posted warnings on their Talk page as it happened, and it seems that might have convinced them. I will keep this page on my Watchlist for a few more days to see what happens. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 18:40, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And now I'm done here. As it turns out, the IP who was removing players was correct in doing so. However, their removal was poor as they also did not notice a hidden table for players out on loan. I have taken the liberty of moving those players to the correct table. It's easier for all of us if they are not to be moved from this table until they return from loan. Requesting WP:CLOSE on this discussion. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 04:03, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to come back to this jd22292 but these players have returned from any loan deals that took place in season 2016-17 and have returned to the squad as of 1 July, the beginning of season 2017-18. I have not reverted your edit as I gave you my word I would not edit war on this page. CoatbridgeChancellor
