The Arts
[edit]There was no citation for the "The Arts" section; knowing members of their arts program, it appeared to be something they wrote in for themselves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.41.17 (talk) 19:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Once again, there is no citation for "The Arts" section. Their drama department has not done anything significant, and a member's opinion in saying they were "successful" really means nothing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.41.17 (talk) 06:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:SEHS seal.jpg
[edit]Image:SEHS seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Wrestling national titles
[edit]The Blair Academy article claims they won 26 straight prep national titles until 2006, but this article claims St. Ed's won some during those years so I added a citation needed tag. It could be due to something like different prep and national titles, but I couldn't find anything when I searched for it. Either way it needs a citation and an explanation. - Taxman Talk 14:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- The prep national title is not the National Championship. Two different things. The Prep Nationals is a tournament that Prep schools participate in (rather than a state tournment like the one St. Edward participates in). The national Championship is a poll, won several times by St. Edward and Blair. EagleFan (talk) 19:44, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Reverting the "advertisement" infobox
[edit]I'm having a hard time understanding why the infobox keeps vanishing. This article contains a bulleted list that reiterates the mission statement, a useless-yet-happy quote from Archbishop Hoban, a useless-yet-impressive list of people who went to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, numerous descriptions that could not possibly be useful to someone researching SEHS, and much more that belongs in a pamphlet, not an article that should be unbiased. The good outweighs the bad by a massive margin. If there is a good reason to remove the infobox, please explain it before you revert. SluggoOne (talk) 05:20, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, Infoboxes are important. EagleFan (talk) 18:37, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Clearly the current article does not need the advertisement box, but if anyone wants to address any of SluggoOne's concerns, please do. For now, I guess the box remains because he says so. 12:05, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Photographs
[edit]I work almost right across the street from the school. I added one photo today and I'll add some more soon. 70.183.187.190 (talk) 16:03, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Notable alumni
[edit]I took some time to check the sources on the notable alumni list and trim down the list to include only material that meets WP criteria. The change was reverted but no explanation was given.
I thought I'd check in here before I strike the material again. — Bdb484 (talk) 16:29, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Note that you removed pretty much all the notable alumni and many were sourced just fine. I noted you removed Phil Donahue and assumed bad faith edit. EagleFan (talk) 16:49, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- I tried to only remove items that didn't meet WP criteria for inclusion, which I suspect you're already familiar with. I took down Donahue because the source was not a reliable secondary source. I'm not sure how any of that constitutes bad faith, but I'm willing to let that go for now.
- I'm going to strike the material again and leave up Donahue in hopes that you or someone else will take the time to find a better source. — Bdb484 (talk) 16:59, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Why did someone get rid of Gray Maynard? I would say he is a notable alumnus... 76.188.176.144 (talk) 20:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- He was removed because there was no reliable source cited to establish that he is an Ed's alum. Provide one and you should be fine. — Bdb484 (talk) 20:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Reliable sourcing? This is wikipedia... First you could check his wikipedia page but that is not a reliable source, so here is one http://www.graymaynard.com/Bio.htm. I do not know how to cite. If someone could, please do. 76.188.176.144 (talk) 23:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Fix for the advert tag attempted
[edit]I hope no one thinks i butchered the article. i tried to trim out material to give the article an encylopedic tone. if anyone wants to add back the material, please be sure its truly notable, and referenced, and NPOV in tone. thanks Mercurywoodrose (talk) 22:52, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- Im happy to have content i removed replaced, but could it be referenced, please? even an inline reference to the website of the school for noncontroversial subjects such as new construction. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 14:32, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- i will not remove the advert tag if i think i have fixed this article. ill leave it to others with more experience. i think i removed it, and if so, i will read policy to be more clear. i have no COI on this article, by the way.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 15:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Alma Mater and Fight song
[edit]I added these today and were promptly removed along with my other edits. One of them, an added history of St. Edward, was understandably removed. But some of my edits were purely for an aesthetic purpose and as any casual observer could see were for the better. I have redone those. Also, I would like someone who knows how to to add the alma mater and fight song both of which can be found here: http://alumni.sehs.net/?page=About_alma_mater
Further, St. Edward is accredited by other associations. These can be found here: http://alumni.sehs.net/?page=About_FastFacts
I would do these however I do not wish to spend my time only to have my edits undone again. Thanks to whoever can.
P.S. Is this the same EagleFan from Yappi.com? 76.188.176.144 (talk) 23:05, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- Im pretty sure that the alma mater is copyrighted, as its fairly recent in origin. i think the only alma maters allowed on WP are copyright free, mostly from before the twentieth century. I would compare with other high schools before adding it.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 23:23, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Tone
[edit]This article practically needs a rewrite to be acceptable for an encyclopedia. At present it reads like a newspaper editoriaL Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:01, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- I cleaned it up considerably today. Still needs work. John from Idegon (talk) 04:43, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Drug Test Policy Deletion
[edit]Regarding deletion by John from Idegon on account of importance outside school community.
Notability sufficient to gain multiple articles in multiple newspapers. Importance regarding current and prospective school community would appear equivalent or greater than most other areas mentioned within this article - it is, after all, an article for the purpose of informing readers about the school (including its practices).
Unsure what specific level of importance is necessary for this that is satisfied by, say, demographic data or the rowing program. Possible I am mis-interpreting reason for deletion, please provide reasoning to avoid unnecessary reversion.
Nosebagbear (talk) 20:30, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
- Two things bear on this removal. One is policy, WP:NOTNEWS, which requires coverage over time in geographically disperse sources. The other is school article guidelines, which tell us not to include items that are primarily of interest to the local school community. Every school has policies regarding drugs. Unless you can show with reliable sourcing that this school's policies are so different that they've attracted widespread attention, this is information that is of local interest. John from Idegon (talk) 21:44, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
- The section on drug testing is superfluous to encyclopedic requirements. Best left for the schools's newsletter or prospectus. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:29, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
