[edit]

"Fie pâinea cât de rea Chiar aici in ţara ta Tot ţi-o fură cineva."

I was always under impresion that the real meaning of those lyrics (actualy an old expresion) was more like : "However bad the bread may be Even here in your (own) country Someone will steal it all from you"

In Joe Mabel's translation the accent is on local criminality, in my translation the accent is on external attacks (reference to Romania history). Maybe I am too much into history, but it could be understood in both ways. MihaiC

Mihai, you're the native speaker, not I. From my more limited knowledge of the language, I believe that it can be read either way, and it's likely that as a native you are more likely to know which meaning is traditionally understood. Maybe the article whould switch over to your translation, maybe it should offer both. I'm comfortable with either solution. Feel free to edit accordingly. -- Jmabel 23:10, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Requests for citation

[edit]
Some of these requests for citation strike me as a bit odd: there are few matters of opinion here. I don't have an independent citation for "bitter wit that does not lend itself to easy translation"; if HQCentral wants that removed, he may do so, though I hardly see how it will be a gain. The relevant phrase "Foaie verde…" is contained in the lyrics already quoted, so I can't imagine what would be additional citation for that. I will cite for the phrase being traditional, though.
As I say, the rest of this I will cite for; basically this can be documented either from the song lyrics themselves or from the album notes. I will make that explicit, but I believe that for music articles in general, except in matters of opinion, we do not usually cite for such things. - Jmabel | Talk 04:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
