Needs to be renamed

[edit]

Spark ignition refers to a means of ignition in internal combusion engines. This article is using it to describe the engines themselves. I would expect spark ignition to describe the mechanisms used to produce sparks and how they are applied. Coils magnetos , distributors etc . Lumos3 09:18, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, so I have re-named it Spark-ignition engine. Biscuittin (talk) 21:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timing

[edit]

Can we have some typical timing here, like voltage rise time across the spark gap, jitter before electrical break down in the gas, rise time of the current, frequency and number of oscillations to heat the gas sufficiently for ignition (in the presence of the strong winds / turbulence in the cylinder)? Energy deposited in the gas? Arnero (talk) 11:51, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
