Trying to define Skyrock
[edit]Hi there,
To be totally transparent, I am an employee of Skyrock, and would like to help define Skyrock on Wikipedia. I'm not trying to use Wikipedia as advertising space for Skyrock. You'll see in my article that I abide by Wikipedia's edit rules, acknowledge criticism of Skyrock, and based my contribution on currently existing articles for competiting social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, both in English AND in French.
The earlier English-language definition for Skyrock here was filled with inaccuracies, and not developed or nuanced enough in some areas, so I decided to correct them. (The same goes for the French version) I hope that my efforts represent a positive contribution to Wikipedia and better clarify what Skyrock is about. I'm sure I've made a few errors but hope they're minor and that my contributions won't be rejected wholesale!
Could you guys tell me what you think?

- Welcome to Wikipedia. You are doing well in getting to understand the style that works here. You seem to have reversed some edits made by the community which you would have done well to keep. For example, you have added a long list of external links back in, and you have deleted the categories and several inter-wiki links. Please be more careful with the delete key. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:25, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Looks a LOT like an Advertisement
[edit]I am glad that the original writer admits that he is an employee, but I think his bias clearly comes through. The adjectives used are not suited to an encyclopedia. Furthermore the controversy section really just discusses how the site has been unfairly criticized. If anyone else agrees, I recommend tagging this article, and someone doing a neutral rewrite. 129.59.181.222 (talk) 04:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree -- this is an advertisement thinly disguised as an objective article. Lines like "This catch phrase captures, if not defines, the intensity and volume of member exchanges on Skyrock.com" have no place in an encyclopedia entry. --Midnightcoffee (talk) 03:02, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- I fully agree. There doesn't seem to be any point to the article other than promotion. I've removed some opinion and unsourced material. It seems like there was more to this article once upon a time. Dayewalker (talk) 03:25, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Skyrock is a radio
[edit]Hi, there's an important problem with this article. Skyrock is before all a French radio station (the biggest as I remember) created in 1986, whereas Skyblog is simply a service launched in 2002, which then incredibly growed. So I think it's very strange this article defines Skyrock as an social network site and mentions little to no about the radio. You might want to look at Skyrock and Skyrock Blog for more details. Cheers. Od1n (talk) 22:01, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- Anyone who has had the misfortune to listen to Skyrock in the recent past (in my case all this week) will know that it is a total apology for a radio station. Firstly the name is a misnomer as it does not play rock music but a nonstop drone of boom-boom-boom drum-machine and vocoder-led sampled dance music. It has a playlist of approximately 50 singles which are repeated ad nauseam throughout the day and the week. Why they even bother to have presenters (they cannot by any stretch of the imagination be called DJs) or time slots is a mystery as nothing changes during the day. They could loop a 2 hour recording (as many did in the first days of free radio in 1981) and very few would notice the difference. There is nothing good to be said about the radio station as I cannot see how the intended audience of ecstasy-filled clubbers can be awake enough to listen to this during the day. This article is wrong, Skyrock is first a radio, please, rename the article "Skyrock.com" and not "Skyrock"
[edit]When you say "Skyrock" to any French, the first thing we think of, is the radio, Skyrock as a social service is NOT CALLED "Skyrock" but "Skyblog" (or if you insist, you can call it "Skyrock.com" but never "Skyrock", this article has maybe been made by a skyrock employee, but it is wrong. Even on the radio, they call it "skyblog". It seems they changed the name recently and the French article first named "Skyblog" is now named "Skyrock blog" Source: I'm French, here are some clues (from French wikipedia):
"Skyrock est une station de radio FM musicale privée française axée sur le rap français et le R'n'B." ("Skyrock" page) Skyrock is a French private FM radio station, specialised in French rap and R'n'B. "Skyrock.com est un site web de réseau social " (Skyrock.com page) Skyrock.com is a social website. "Skyrock Blog, anciennement Skyblog, est un site web..." (Skyrock.com) Skyrock Blog, formerly Skyblog, is a website — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:8A8D:FE80:D31:F23B:5D4B:C506 (talk) 11:47, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
