Skull

[edit]

For years, my father, a Danish emigrant to Canada, used to lift his glass to have a drink, and his one word toast was "Skoll".

He used to tell us that skoll stood for skull and was in reference to the Vikings of old brashly drinking their liquor from the skull of a dead man.

Is there any truth to this?>

Warmest personal regards,

Earl Barnholden <earlbarnholden@sympatico.ca> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.196.147 (talk) 17:28, 12 December 2004 (UTC)[reply]

My grandfather (Farfar) used tell us the same story about the origin of "skoll." He emigrated from Bornholm (an island that's actually closer to Sweden than Denmark) to the U.S. in 1926, eventually ending up in California.
"Skål" is a common Danish toast meaning "bowl". :bloodofox: (talk) 16:39, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The salute Skål (cheers) - when you raise your glass - has nothing to do with this wolf named Sköll. It has none the less roots in other ancient norse ritauls. --Ktp72 (talk) 09:00, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Skall is 'loud barking' in Swedish. Drakoniam (talk) 09:53, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Skoll Beer

[edit]

Skoll Beer is (surprisingly) a beer company. They seem to still be around, but the only thing I remember of them is some advertising cardboard beermats of sorts my dad had when I was a kid. They were cutouts of some characters from the comic strip Hagar the Horrible. I think he may have picked them up when we were in england in '87. Would it be relevant to add info about the company to the article?--DooMDrat 00:47, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)

Surename?

[edit]

Should it be assumed that Sköll's surename is Hróðvitnisson like his brother Hati's is --Graff Zeppelin (talk) 03:24, 21 January 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Skoll and hati

[edit]

Wrong !!! Skoll is not another name for Fenrir. skoll and hati are the sons of Fenrir. 67.172.226.236 (talk) 22:28, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article only states that one scholar believes it is possible that is the case, it doesn't state it as fact. --TylerBurden (talk) 01:48, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
