Should this really be in this namespace? It doesn't seem to been an article about Simple English but a how-to on writing "Sinmple English" for the Simple English Wikipedia. Is there something called Simple English outside of Wikipedia or is this our own invention? Rmhermen 21:03, Jul 9, 2004 (UTC)

I agree, this should be on meta. I was expecting an article about what I now discover is Plain English, as in the plain english campaign. Lupin 07:00, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Have made it clearer in the article. If someone wants to move it, go ahead. Should there be an article here at all? Is Simple English actually a valid language, or is it our name for a simple Wikipedia? --HappyDog 00:38, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Redirects to actual encyclopedia articles should be preferred over pages in the Wikipedia: namespace. Most likely, somebody looking for "simple English" is actually looking for Basic English. --[[User:Eequor|η♀υωρ]] 23:43, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

There should be a link to the Simple English Wikipedia main page.

Are there equivalents for other languages - for those of us who have gone beyond 'basic/holiday xxx' and want to reach understanding The Metro Metro (Associated Metro Limited) standards of that language? Jackiespeel 16:45, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This should probably just be called Simple English (Disambiguation), simply because one could also argue that although the term "Basic English" has become the commonly used phrase describing what is discussed on the Basic English page, it could just as easily be referred to as "Simple English". What im saying is that "Simple English" exists as a concept, though it is described on wikipedia under different names. Thus this should still be the page to which "Simple English" yields. People are capable of clicking on basic english after encountering this page. Ixtli 03:56, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of Simple English

[edit]

Simple English starts with Basic English so as to be able to address all matter of things, then adds the most frequent 1,000 English words to provide fluidity and familiarity. And relaxes use of nouns as verbs. Some further add VOA Special English as a common and superb source of learning of English. There is much overlap between the three sources such that the Simple vocabulary is much less than the sum of the numbers of each. Simple English is the natural expansion of Basic English to common usage. But the two are different from a programming sense. Some non-quantitative types say Simple is simply writing simply. True, but of no actionable value. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.203.96.253 (talk) 15:04, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
