[edit]Are there situations where other types of pins may be identified as shear pins? For example, is it unlikely that in Aerospace Engineering a pin that is designed to resist shear (such as a metalic dowel pin) might be referred to as a "shear pin"?Jimh97 (talk) 19:17, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- Any pin that is used as a safety device, in that it is designed to shear before anything else breaks, is properly called a "shear pin". Wizard191 (talk) 21:19, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
