Notability and references
[edit]Can the creator of the page provide reference for the following?
- Shishu Academy award
- The article lacks any references to prove the subject's notability as an author. Specifically, the provided references to his academic courses, academic positions etc. do not prove his notability as an academic, let alone as an author. (Ref #4 isn't working, btw). Ref #5 shows he was an alumnus of Harvard, it doesn't establish his notability. Ref #6 and #7 shows he presented a paper as a grad student, so what?. Ref #8 is a link to Google cache which has expired. Ref #9 inexplicably links to the article on Feature films on Banglapedia. #10 is subject's own website, which is not really usable as a reference here. This leaves us with Ref #1, #2, and #3. #2 and #3 shows he conducted a study that was reported in the university's website and another website. So? Hundreds of academics are reported in each university's website, that alone doesn't make them notable. #1 also seems to be supplied by the author, to a non-RS site)
So, I request the creator of the page to provide references. And until you do so, and establish notability, PLEASE stop removing the notability tag. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 20:08, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- This article should be notable under Bio category. The author has received a major national award of Bangladesh (From Shishu Academy) and his writing was selected in the Bangladesh Text Book Board since 1996. What else do you need to be notable? Can you tell me how many Bangladeshi writers actually received this award and honor? Second, his contribution to the history of liberation war, particularly for the young readers is extraordinarily noteworthy, please also see "Operation Jackpot" entry that I added from his book. His academic achievement here is just complimentary to his biography, though getting a degree from Harvard, receiving American National level award and other international award may be sufficient. However, I will try to get more references. Please keep uniformity in tagging, otherwise, I would request to remove the tag. Since you asked for reference for Shishu Academy award, here is the link http://www.sezanmahmud.org/awards.php, though this is author's own website, however, the certificate from Shishu Academy will show, or do you have doubt about it? Have you all provided references for others author's award? I have not seen those. Thank you. Kaushik kamal 71 (talk) 16:30, 27 July 2008 (UTC)KK
- I agree with Mr. Kaushik that this article should be considered as notable under biography without any question. The author has received national award from Shishu Academy in 1395 Bengali year (Roughly at the age of 21-22-23, I calculated from birth year) and has been included by bangladesh Text Book Board since 1996 (!), I think nobody at this age has received such honor in Bangladesh. I also inquired in APHA (American Public Health Association) since the author's academic area is public health and found that the Early career award is given since 1978, every year, to an outstanding professional for outstanding and promising contribution to the field. Since 1978, he is not only the first bangali but also first Asian inlcuidng chinese and Indian ( I have a list of award recipients I can share with you all). Mr. Ragib, you study in US, do you think that easy thing to get? Even as an academic it is notable award. You spoked like going to Harvard, getting an award from (APHA, the largest public health organization in the world) is nothing, don't sound like a fool, please. If you can not disprove those, please remove the notability tag, otherwise I will remove it.

- Well, we need references for ANY claims. So, please provide any reference you have for the above issues. Going to Harvard does not make a person notable, that's for sure. Thousands of people enter Harvard each year, and going there or to any Ivy league school is not a measure of notability. Get real. --Ragib (talk) 22:15, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Mr. Ragib, you missed the point. This article is notable (Bangladeshi writer's biography) for two reasons: The author has received a major national award (from Bangladesh Shishu Academy) in 1395 Bengali year at youngest age (In that time there was no internet in Bangladesh (how do you get reference?, but I collect the photo of award from webpage. Second, Mr. Kaushik mentioned and I mentioned that the author is included by the Bangladesh Text Book Board since 1996 along with national writers of Bangla literature. These are enough to be notable. The educational background is COMPLIMENTARY to that. You are sounding like you have personal problem with this author. I looked at other author's biography, there is no references and some awards are not even national standard. Why is this double standard? Can you explain please? You can check with Bangladesh shishu academy if you have doubt about the award. Nobody said that this article is notable because the author went to Harvard. So, please don't divert the issue here. 1385 Bangladesh Calendar
[edit]Could someone convert this into Gregorian. Thanks! --Regents Park (sniff out my socks) 14:54, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
1395 Bengali year will be 1988 Gregorian year, 1385 will be 1978. Did you mean 1395 in stead? Thanks.Kaushik kamal 71 (talk) 21:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yup. I meant 1395. Thanks! --Regents Park (sniff out my socks) 23:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
