Removal of false claim
[edit]I have removed this (unreferenced) claim:
- "It is important historically because common law marriage was first created in Scotland."
This government paper states explicitly "Common law marriage does not exist in Scotland.":

- Both comments aee absolutely true. I believe that Scotland was the birthplace of common law marriage,[citation needed] but then elminated it. Bearian (talk) 16:41, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Developing Article
[edit]Over the next little while I am going to try to work on expanding and developing this article. Scots family law is a unique sysetm very distinct from England & Wales / Northern Ireland and it is also of special interest to the public. I prefer to craft sections in my sandbox before copying them over to the article to ensure that I am happy with it before making the edit public. Given that this article basically has no information currenlty, I hope this approach is ok with everyone. I will, however, move them as I go section by section to allow for people to review/comment/amend as they see fit.
My proposed outline for the article is:
Marriage and civil partnership Done
Marriage
- Civil ceremony
- Religious ceremony
- Legal impediments to marriage
Civil partnership
- Legal impediments to civil partnership
Legal rights and obligations
Marriage
- Aliment
- Moveable property
- Inheritance
- Criminal law
Civil partnership
- Occupancy rights
- Moveable property
- Inheritance
- Criminal law
Divorce and dissolution Done
- Marriage
- Civil partnership
Cohabitation
Children
- Legitimacy
- Parental responsiblities and rights
- Adoption
- Legal capacity
---
This outline will probably be changed as I write the article, but comments are welcome on the outline now. Cohabitation will obviously need sub-headings as well. Connolly15 (talk) 15:33, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
