Notability of Baldwin as Trump

Now that Alec Baldwin has confirmed he's returning to play Trump, is it really going to be necessary to list every single time he appears as Trump? His appearances as probably going to be as frequent as Lorne Michaels' are, who is also not listed for every time he cameos on the show, since he also plays a semi-recurring role. - Jasonbres (talk) 15:36, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Jason, in regards to that, all I know is what Baldwin himself has said, and that is that his appearances this season will be much briefer and more spread out (in his own words, a few celery sticks rather than a full meal, because of his schedule for this next year). For that reason, and because the Trump impression is a relevant part of the cultural and political climate today, and is so much a part of history right now. I would say that we do indeed need to list every time he comes on, primarily because there will be more times now where he will not. So far he has appeared in 4 out of 7 episodes. I think the best way to mention his appearances on the show is as a recurring guest along with a list of the exact episodes in which he appears. Cast for the Season

Here's a random question I had: This article asserts that Colin Jost and Michael Che will return to the Weekend Update desk next season, but the cited source does not verify this, just that they would come back for the 3-week run of Weekend Update: Summer Edition. That said, I fully believe that Lorne Michaels would not have them back for that show if they were not meant to continue to anchor the update desk for season 43. So I wondered, would it be safe for us to also assume that any who appeared during the Summer Edition segments (Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong, Mikey Day, Alex Moffat, Leslie Jones, and Pete Davidson) will all be returning for Season 43? I would think so, but I also know that until that is confirmed or denied, it may be anyone's guess. So I wanted to open up that topic for conversation. After watching how the cast information has gone back and forth between being visible and hidden, I found a source that explicitly states that the remainder of the Season 42 cast will return for Season 43, which I have put into the article for verification. If anyone doubts that this source is reliable, please let me know, and I will find another. But USA Today (which published the article in question) has not been proven to be unreliable, so I hope this debate is put to rest now. In the meantime, I wanted to note that the specific information is confirmed in that source directly under the video entitled "Airport Shut Down (Stand Up Comedy). Hope that clears up any confusion, and I also hope this resolves the dispute once and for all. I welcome any questions about this that anyone might have. Where is your reliable source for that information? According to this article, her agent was quoted as saying that Bryant's development of a comedy series for Hulu/Netflix would not preclude her participation in Season 44. Baldwin, again

@Sometimes the sky is blue and BIK89: Neither of you have opened a discussion, so here goes. Should Alec Baldwin be listed under each episode in which he portrays Donald Trump? As he is not a cast member and it's what has been done in previous seasons, my initial feeling is yes, though it could get somewhat redundant. Another concern is if he plays someone other than Trump, in which case he'd have to be listed for that episode. For the record, I did continue the existing discussion on the topic.

Although not formally a cast member, he is a recurring guest, and as such individual appearances are not notable. Unless the decision is made to detail each and every sketch, I don't think it's necessary to note his appearances at each show. It's sufficient to put on the top which episodes he made guest appearances. I guess SNL never had a recurring guest before, and Wikipedians are having difficulty handling it. Thank you for writing. I apologize for not having seen your prior comment. My main qualm with simply listing the episodes with Baldwin at the top of the page is that it does not distinguish between portrayals of Donald Trump and other appearances. In addition, the way it was handled with the previous season was to list individual episodes, and there didn't seem to be any disagreement. It isn't up to Wikipedians to decide whether or not his individual appearances are notable, but seeing as he hasn't joined as an official cast member, they are out of the ordinary and merit listing. --Hameltion (talk, contribs) 22:44, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

I agree that the way season 42 handled it is correct. The recurring/featured cast section is meant for people actually credited in the opening titles; Baldwin has never received a credit for his non-hosting appearances, and therefore should just be mentioned by the episodes he appears on. No they did not. What aired was a new episode featuring host Will Ferrell and musical guest Chris Stapleton. While I am no expert in this regard, it seems safe to assume that the football videos were a Youtube exclusive feature prior to the Super Bowl.
