POV
[edit]This article is written like a promotional brochure, not an encyclopedia article. Most of its content is self-sourced. The article needs independent balanced sources. Edward321 (talk) 23:54, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- I also suspect that Singhaniket255 may be closely affiliated to the articles subject as the article only seems to havebeen having these problems since he has been making edits (looking at old revisions). Perhaps should consider rollback to last edit not by this user? - RatRat- Talk 15:17, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Comment
[edit]I now see the most blatant example of copyright violation "Consequent upon the decision, taken by Govt. of India in 1985, to tender a valuable, yet humble tribute to the everlasting memory of the late Shri Harchand Singh Longowal, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology took its shape." was removed. The article still borrows heavily from the linked page, but replacing the whole content with the template may be overkill. I look forward to the input of additional editors. Non-encyclopaedic content
[edit]Recent edits have added much non-encyclopaedic content, none of which has been sourced and even if it had been sourced , would have been redundant here. Knowing that it has facilities such as Libraries and workshops is not encyclopaedic. Knowing that it awards degrees is not encyclopaedic - are there any universities that don't. Knowing that there are hostels is certainly not encyclopaedic. Before re-adding please provide some justification here for these edits. Velella Velella Talk 17:17, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Velella, it is my understanding that when a university is legitimately accredited, there is no reason to not include information about the courses or the facility. Yale University (and others) include detailed descriptions of the courses they offer, in-depth student activities, and info about the campus and facilities - it is encyclopedic and the citations reference Yale (or respective universities). I'm not sure why the IP reverted the image I corrected (wanted a "float left"?) but I don't see anything wrong with the other information they added except that more info could've been added rather than just a list. In your edit summary for the revert, you stated RS were needed "...not the University's own web-site." I disagree because WP:RS does allow it per Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves. I will await your response before I replace the information on the chance there is something I may have overlooked. Thanks in advance, Atsme📞📧 14:02, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have looked both at Yale University and at King's College London and in both cases where facilities are listed these include notable items or are notable themselves (each item includes a blue link); similarly for all the information in each article. Adding lists of courses with no notability or list of halls of residence is much more akin to publishing an advertising brochure for the University. Wikipedia does not support this sort of promotional writing. Velella Velella Talk 21:34, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Regards! ajaydavid This is an Institute page. Why every editor is kept on reverting the page. Without reading the article or checking the sources including. C'mon, seriously! Atleast look before doing any non-sense again and again. Specially -> Edward321 (talk · contribs) & TheRedPenOfDoom (talk · contribs)
Why dont you see other Indian colleges articles. Like, IIT Kharagpur , IIT Kanpur, similary there are many articles like this. All showing their campus details the same way i was trying to do. So its like if I want the same thing for my university page then its wrong but if a college like IIT and big Insititue from India does the same thing then its right. And you say No promotional content. And more than that, just look towards the MIT's page. Read it carefully, whatever you are saying about the campus promotional and all can be seen their also. Why dont you better check other pages and then come back to us and give a proper reason for reverting. == Edward What happened == Atleast now reply and do something about other pages. As it looks you need to read the policies or terms again not me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Szmohitkumar (talk • contribs) 06:20, 20 May 2015 (UTC) |
