Aboriginal descent

[edit]

I found the article currently quite unprecise in that regard: it says that at some time she found out "...that she and her sister were of Aboriginal descent". That gives the reader the impression she was a foster child or something. Now one print encyclopaedia (in German) talks about her "Aborigine descent from the mother's side" and the biographical text that is linked to the article also indicates that, though again there it was not clear to me whether her mother's parents were in turn both of Aboriginal descent, or whether for some generations it was girl children taken from their biological families and then placed in a forreign one, possibly endig up with a white (or other) man. From the photograph in said print book she does not look like what I would expect an Australian Aboriginal to look like (I only once met one such lady face to face, on a lecture tour of hers in Europe), but rather like a Latin American lady. So I conclude it is "some unspecified part of her biological and cultural heritage" is "Australian Aboriginal". Which for me raises another question: the article says at its beginning that she is "an Australian Aboriginal author". Now I wonder "what (or what 'portion of heritage') does it need to be counted as one"? Similar as in those called "black" perhaps; perhaps it is used for "each and everyone who has some portion of African heritage of whatever size", although from the point of view of Africans average American "blacks" look very much different (even regarding their physical appearence only, not to mention linguistic, cultural or social factors). Comparing M.Sally with that (very dark skinned etc and hence "completely") Aboriginal lady author whom I mentioned I would call her an Australian of partly Aboriginal descent. Or is that considered politically uncorrect and some people are now geting angry at me? - Note that I am not rating anyone, neither as author nor as person; it is only about adaequate language use ! - In sum : it seems to me the article is misleadingly unprecise and the term is cloudy.

Provocative language

[edit]

There is some unnecessarily provocative language used in this article. I've just read My Place and I don't think the phrase 'due to the hate of teachers' accurately represents Morgan's point-of-view about her school days. She says she found it boring, and irrelevant, and that there was racism, but I don't recall her using or implying the expression 'hate'. Indeed, the tone of the book is generally not rancorous or bitter, and using this expression here gives the wrong impression of the work, in my opinion.ANZLitLovers (talk) 01:39, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The section isn't properly cited anyway - i suggest you revise it, per your reading, and if anyone has a concern, they should raise it here. Thanks for checking it out. hamiltonstone (talk) 13:15, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing controversy section

[edit]

An editor (User talk:Berkeleyboy13) recently added a section with some points relating to the controversy around the veracity of Morgan's book My Place. In its initial form it partly repeated claims already in the article text, partly added new material, and added material that probably violated BLP and was not exactly what the source said. I moved those parts that were new into the main article text, and removed those parts that were duplication or inaccurate. The same editor then re-inserted the material. I have now left a note on their talk page and this explanation here, and am removing again. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:26, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
