[edit]there is much more quoted text from other source than from wikipedians.....WillC (talk) 18:51, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've added some stuff from Bailey, since the article has the weakness you describe. It's really an interesting case, deserving a strong place in American legal history. rewinn (talk) 19:30, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- no it is not. no it does not. WillC (talk) 20:38, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- For what reason? This was an important case in LA history, leading directly to the dissolution of that state's Supreme Ct and replacement with a more pro-slavery court. It illuminates a very important aspect to American history of race. rewinn (talk) 20:55, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- then merge it with that state's court page. WillC (talk) 11:52, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Disagree with proposed merger. The subject of the article is notable in the history of slavery, slave law, and Louisiana. Let's see what other editors have to say. Editor WillC has offered no reason for merger. rewinn (talk) 16:57, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Editor WillC has not formally proposed a merger. WillC (talk) 00:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Have added identification of the legal cases, and included it in the categories of United States slavery case law and Freedom suits - may include it in the latter article, as this case is based on different grounds than some, and certainly highlights the ambiguous issues related to ethnic ancestry of slaves in the South. People were uncomfortable because it highlighted the prevalence of interracial relationships resulting in "white" slaves.Parkwells (talk) 17:50, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Picture issue
[edit]AFAIK (and according to Bailey) there are no known actual pictures of this article's subject. If a picture is desirable, perhaps a contemporary photo of the location of this article's notable events, e.g. Belmonti's cafe if the building still exists, or the LA Supreme Ct? rewinn (talk) 17:20, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Alsace was French, not German, between 1681 and 1871
[edit]Thus Salomé Müller from Langensoultzbach was in fact born a French citizen, not a German one. --RCS (talk) 10:19, 6 July 2009 (UTC) maybe, legally french, but German Speaking, German ethnically, and self identifying as german 99.163.220.153 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:52, 28 March 2010 (UTC).
- Thanks for adding that. We'll have to include it in the article, already dealing with a complex story - a way of showing the persistence of ethnic over national identification in many areas, for good reason, when associated with language, culture, etc.Parkwells (talk) 17:47, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Delete long quote
[edit]I recommend deleting the long quote from the Law Reporter, taken from the Crafts' slave narrative, as it is not dated or otherwise identified. It is a primary source, as it's a contemporary news account. There is better material in standard reliable secondary sources, which would be better used for this article, per WIKI Policy on sources. Sally Miller (American slave) → Sally Miller – Unnecessary disambiguation. Unreal7 (talk) 22:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Support I looked for about 20 minutes for another Sally Miller that may be of note to justify keeping this and couldn't find one. Sally Miller Gearhart clearly goes by all three names in all instances, so the change is highly appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SLawsonIII (talk • contribs) 03:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support. Only one here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
