A Youtube Video as Citation

[edit]

@Cyphoidbomb: Can this link [1] be used as a reference for these two individual's date of birth? According to this link, official channels of notable organisations may be acceptable as primary source. This Asian Paints channel is 'verified' so it seems Official. My concern is since the video is in Hindi, is it a good source? Kindly look at the matter.

EDIT:The video is obviously Promotional and according to File:WPVIDEOLINK_flow_chart.jpg, should not be used. What to do? Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:49, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Fylindfotberserk: Thank you for your query. The Verified stamp is important so we can avoid accidentally linking to a copyright violation. There are times when we can use promotional materials (ex: movie trailer) if we're trying to source content that can't be found elsewhere. If we're linking to a video solely to promote the video or product, that's not good. It's OK if it's in Hindi. If the source clearly has these guys talking about their birth dates, then you should be able to use it. You might consider using the {{cite av media}} template, so you can add a time stamp of where the info can be found. Ultimately it would be nice if we could get a reference from an independent source, because sometimes people lie about their ages. But for now, it should be fine. (I haven't looked at the content or verified it, but I'll trust your judgment). Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:46, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
