Conflation of articles about two different ships
[edit]The ship that sank in 1949 was not the same one that is pictured and described in this article. The ship pictured and described here is the Taiping built by the Hong Kong & Whampoo Dock Company Ltd. in 1926, and registered in Hong Kong to the Australian-Oriental Line. The ship that sank in January 1949 was called the Tai Ping, was built in the US at the Newburgh Shipyard Inc. in Newburgh New York in 1921, and was registered in Shanghai to a T.B. Hwang. Both are listed in the 1949 volume of Lloyd's Register, but the Tai Ping is noted as sunk and disappears after that volume, whereas the Taiping out of Hong Kong is still in the register after that. It is doubtful that it was ever salvaged. 204.50.172.132 (talk) 19:26, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- That exactly right. We will have to move the irrelevant material from here to SS Taiping (1921). (Incidentally, although Lloyd's Register lists the 1921 one as "Tai Ping", many (most?) references refer to her a "Taiping" - in Chinese script there is no real difference.) - Davidships (talk) 23:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
