Copyvio?
[edit]This page appears to be identical to her bio at IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1707018/bio), however, that's claimed to be the product of a PR firm. Does anyone have a good reason why this shouldn't be considered a copyvio? I'd imagine that it's a PR release then it may be freely re-usable, but I don't see any evidence of that. Of course it's also rather POV, but that's a seperate isse. Mark Grant 18:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I've removed the bio section. Please don't add it back without demonstrating that it's not a copyvio. Mark Grant 18:17, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Ryannewman.jpg
[edit]Image:Ryannewman.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Teen actress?
[edit]Is it accurate to call a twelve-year-old a "teen actress?" 70.157.24.88 (talk) 00:13, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- No, I fixed it. For An Angel (talk) 20:58, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Sshe is not a teen actress since she is only twelve ~ Juicystar07 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:14, 22 February 2011 (UTC).
Old photo better than none
[edit]The current infobox photo is from 6 years ago and it would be great to get a more up-to-date one for the article. Also free-use photos are hard to obtain. However this article does cover her notable activities as of that date so an image of her appearance at that time does have some benefit. If we got a newer one the existing one would still belong in the article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 20:42, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
Her Name
[edit]Is Ryan really also a female name? If not, did her parents name her Ryan because they wanted to have a son and never got one? Sometimes, people name a son a female name if they never got to have a daughter as they wanted or a daughter a male name for the same reason except meaning they had a desire to have a son in that case. Cbsteffen (talk) 01:05, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- It is her name, reasons for why her parents picked it requires references, not speculation. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:07, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Requested move 10 January 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Withdrawn by nom (after no support was expressed), as per the last comment below. (non-admin closure) — BarrelProof (talk) 07:55, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ryan Newman (actress) → Ryan Whitney (actress)
- Ryan Newman (racing driver) → Ryan Newman
- Ryan Newman → Ryan Newman (disambiguation)
- Ryan Whitney → Ryan Whitney (ice hockey)
- Ryan Whitney (disambiguation) → Ryan Whitney
– Actress has changed her name. Per WP:NAMECHANGES, page should be moved to new name, with the subsequent further page moves. Ryan Dean Newman should remain as is. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 19:22, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- Note: Ryan Newman titles a dab page with significant content and so is ineligible as a new page name unless its content is also moved. This request has been altered to reflect that fact. The actress's entry would remain as a "former name of..." entry. Also, if this request is granted, then "Ryan Whitney" must become a dab page with two entries. P.I. - Comment: I've created the page Ryan Whitney (disambiguation) irrespective of this discussion's outcome, and added it to the list. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 06:56, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: I see that "Angel" was previously part of the name given in this article, but it was removed. Was that part of her name at some point? If so, shouldn't the article mention it somewhere? There has been some editing of the article by a special-purpose account. I don't see her credited as Ryan Whitney in any of her appearances. I see that name mentioned in IMDB, but IMDB is not a reliable source (see WP:IMDB.) — BarrelProof (talk) 13:51, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- It appears the only sources are indeed IMDb and her social media accounts. Of those, Facebook has her as "Ryan Whitney Angel", Instagram and Twitter are "Ryan Whitney". IMDb lists all of her appearances as "Ryan Newman", but none since 2018. It should be noted that after the racing driver was involved in a horror crash in the 2020 Daytona 500, Instagram users mistakenly bombarded the actress' account with messages of support and good will, as per [1], which is likely what spurred the name changes on socials. I guess we may have to wait until she starts working again. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 14:13, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: No rationale seems to have been provided for the proposed move of Ryan Newman (racing driver) → Ryan Newman. — BarrelProof (talk) 03:55, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- The entire rationale for that rests on the actress having her article moved to Ryan Whitney (actress), which would make the racing driver the Primary topic. Ryan Newman was made into a dab page after a discussion resulted in the consensus that the actress and racing driver are both primaries. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 06:46, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Renaming the article about her would not stop everyone from looking for information about her by the topic name "Ryan Newman". Please see WP:DEFUNCTS and WP:DAB. We disambiguate by topic names, not by article names. — BarrelProof (talk) 07:41, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose No reliable sources cited, and a Google test brings back the hockey player only. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 20:39, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not yet as nom, as this is apparent that her name change fails WP:SPNC and is therefore WP:TOOSOON, WP:CRYSTAL, etc. Can someone close this, please? --GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 07:10, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Ryan Whitney (actress) → ? – An RM from 18 months ago resulted in no support to move this article to Ryan Whitney (actress). It has since been unilaterally moved by Ladida209, an user who has only edited on this article and has reverted a reversion of this move (diff). The only additional source I see since that discussion is this from Deadline which uses "Ryan Whitney Newman". Article should either by moved back to Ryan Newman (actress) per WP:COMMONNAME or to Ryan Whitney Newman as natural disambiguation from Ryan Newman (racing driver). -"Ghost of Dan Gurney" 14:51, 29 July 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 15:11, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Move to Ryan Whitney Newman. While her blue-check Facebook [2] and Insta [3] use "Ryan Whitney", recent secondary sources are using "Ryan Whitney Newman" [4] [5]. WP:NATURAL doesn't apply to people's names, but I'd have to say that this is also a good way to avoid confusion with Ryan Whitney and Ryan Newman (racing driver). 162 etc. (talk) 18:00, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Neutral, but leaning oppose – at first I was going to support per 162 etc. This actress does not have many recent sources from what I gathered from Google so it is hard to make a determination. However, based on these recent sources Deadline and Cinema Express I would have said support. Upon further evaluation, she no longer actually uses the name Newman per Twitter and Facebook and prefers the name Ryan Whitney. Per WP:NAMECHANGES, I am conflicted on whether this should be moved per the subject's own social media and the fact that I cannot find many sources using this name anymore. On another note, I do believe WP:NATURAL can play a small part in human base names but I am not convinced it would help this case. cookie monster 755 05:44, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
