Rank
[edit]Notwithstanding the London Gazette references regarding rank - I have a copy of:
"Air Commentary" - a summary of BBC wartime broadcasts published in 1942 by W.S. Cowell Ltd, Ipswich and London.
That publication discusses in an oblique (wartime censorship in action ) manner the mission in which he was awarded the VC. His rank (in 1942) is illustrated and noted as Wing Commander.
So either a mistake - or he was "acting" Wing Commander in early 1942.
