[edit]I disagree with deleting this Bio....Robert Ransom was the brother of Matt Whitaker Ransom, of Warrenton NC, at the time of the Civil War the wealthiest county in North Carolina and notable for the number of public servants it produced for the state and the US. Both brothers served in the Civil War. Although Robert may have remained more of a local (NC) type figure as opposed to Matt who became Ambassador to Mexico in the 1890s, he was nevertheless a "war hero" figure, whose actual war service may have in fact eclipsed his brother Matt's.
After the war, I beleive Robert was indeed the Principal Civil Engineer (or whatever it was called) for the state, which meant overseeing Roads, Railways, Canals, etc etc. I recall he spent the rest of his life in the eastern part of the state - which was wehre all the politics and decisions were made back then.
Point is, I've seen far more obscure figures written up on Wikipedia! He needs more research, and a photo. Anybody have anything they can add?Engr105th (talk) 16:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
