talkheader and archive layout
[edit]I can appreciate that your personal stylistic sensibilities see these template tools as "garbage". but please do not force your POV. I can't tell you how many times I have added the template:talkheader to a talk page and cleaned it up and then watched as newbies followed the instructions - signing their posts, adding section headers - simply because of the talkheader. It works, it's an extremely useful header. Also the archive button is helpful for future use. Overall the header presented here is very neatly laid out for future and current use. If you have a problem with either of these template I recommend you take it to TfD, or the templates usage instructions, and not try and impose style wars on individual pages.-- Stbalbach 02:00, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's not necessary and it's clutter, because the page had (until now) no posts and no archives! I'm allowed to be bold, NPOV applies to articles. Also, each time you revert me you also revert my fix to the WPBio template! --kingboyk 09:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Nothing wrong with having these things on a talk page. "garbage" and "clutter" are completely inappropriate. If you have an issue with this deal with it at the appropriate place - MoS and/or template guidelines. -- Stbalbach 14:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Take your own advice friend. {{talkheader}} -

"This template should be used only when needed. Acculturation can't be forced, and it can be overdone. If the message is on every talk page, its impact will be reduced."
- It's not needed here because we're the first persons to ever post to this page.
- Anyway this will hopefully be moot soon as the message might be moved to Mediawiki (software message) space and the template deleted. --kingboyk 14:34, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- So we wait for a newbie to show up and not know what to do, make a mistake, help them fix it, and then add the template? Or we take pro-active action and add it ahead of time. I'm glad to hear they are thinking about making this template default on all talk pages not sure why it has not been done already. I suspect a small minority forget the vast majority are newbies. -- Stbalbach 14:31, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
To Robert Newton fans
[edit]Robert Newton We may need to change few things, according to imdb http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0628579/filmoseries#tt0047705 Newton made 26 episodes, he just finished before he died. Now, on amazon and everywhere else i found there are 13 shows, volume 1 and 2, like article says, but the link above, 26 shows, but ???, meaning something is very screwy. But that is 8 shows, i was only able to find 13. Another thing we should add, when he died he left his 5 year old child, there was a huge custody battle over him, finally he was left in care of his aunt and his half sister, of course, i do not have link for that, but i found some info via old newspapers, i can not copy pdf file here. What's the code to create archives and a rectangle, so my talk appears in a square? -Boxingwear
- Hi Boxingwear, I am a fan of Newton but I don't know anything about him beyond what this article says. Anything you can add to the article would be great. Your post is fine, just need to sign it per the instructions using 4 tildes like "~~~~". Stbalbach 14:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
TV Series
[edit]I keep seeing black & white TV films on satellite TV of a series of Long John Silver starring Robert Newton. This is not mentioned in the article. Streona (talk) 21:46, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Bizarre sentence in lede
[edit]Known for his hard drinking lifestyle, he was cited as a role model by the actor Oliver Reed and The Who drummer Keith Moon.
What is the connection between the 2 parts of the sentence? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 09:48, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Residence
[edit]Newton did not remain in Shaftesbury for long after his birth; his father was most often resident closer to London in Hertfordshire. In 1911 census Algernon and Marjorie were recorded living in Northchurch, Herts, with their children Nigel (7), Robert (5), Pauline (4) and Ivy(2). 2600:1700:EA01:1090:6098:6CDB:E375:31A7 (talk) 03:42, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
