[edit]

I put up a source when someone tried to prod this page without adding sources. Please add an image and more sources, thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:52, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Randy Kryn Image would presumably be fair use only, sigh. Anyway, I was the one trying to delete this, as I couldn't find sources under the French name. As someone pointed out the English name, there are indeed plenty of sources, so I've withdrawn my request for deletion and added some cotent. I do wonder if per COMMONNAME and USEENGLISH this shouldn't be moved from French to English name? What do you think? Hello Piotrus. Many of Mattise's paintings on Wikipedia are titled in French, so this seems fine and not inconsistent as long as a redirect to the English name exists (just checked and no redirect as yet, so will add it) although an RM to change all his French names to English would resolve it but would likely fail (just a guess, since there are many French names used as prime artistic descriptors on w). Yes, that free use thing, but wouldn't using a non-free use image be allowed on this page? I'm not proficient in Wikipedia's image styling but I think that in most if not all cases non-free use artistic images are allowed as long as the image page contains an exception template. This is a nice painting, thanks for focusing attention on it. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:00, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Randy Kryn I think fair use would be allowed, so someone just needs to find time to add it. As for the names, I agree consistency would be best, but redirects will do perfectly fine for now. Would be nice to check all other paintings of his and see which ones need English name/redirect added. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:53, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Piotrus, good idea. Have done six redirects (still a couple French names on the navbox which have no translation on the page - I don't speak or read French, just like to hear it spoken). I'm not an expert at uploading images, but fair use sounds like it would work. Some of his paintings are famous under both French and English names. @Randy Kryn Just a thought that we just need 120 more words and this would be eligible for a DYK. Can you find anything else to add? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:37, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Will give a try, maybe a little more data about Matisse and his artistic phases will take up a good 25 words (only 95 to go?!). Probably shouldn't go for DYK unless an image is added. Randy Kryn (talk) 15:34, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Randy Kryn I can add image if you can get it to 250+ words :) Know anyone else interested in this to ping? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:07, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good challenge Piotrus. Will take a look soon, have a few personal projects to work on, but maybe the "Visual Arts Wikiproject challenge team" (who wore capes, artist hats and masks even before the mandates) can shake some words out of this Matisse oil-based color spread. I'll drop them a note. Randy Kryn (talk) 11:29, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
