curriculum

[edit]

Then prove that all of this school's AutoCAD licenses are illegal, show me your references...if you can't show me any, better keep quiet about it anyway. And don't even try to advertise on WP, Wikipedia is not a marketplace or an advertising service. Thank you. --- Tito Pao 23:15, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

Marking article as Start / Mid. Needs a cleanup to follow WP:NPOV and remove trivial details. Appears to be quite an important school, but more references are needed to verify this, so marking as "Mid" for now. Camaron1 | Chris 18:05, 8 October 2007 (UTC) 122.2.123.218 (talk) 04:02, 3 February 2008 (UTC) JUST A REACTION TO RISCI ADMIN. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO CAN'T PAY ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS IN THE SCHOOL LIKE THE FLUSH BINGO CARDS THAT COSTS 450 PHP. NOT ALL STUDENTS ARE WELL-OFF. RISCI IS A PUBLIC SCHOOL. THEREFOR THE SCHOOL MUST IMPOSE DUES WHICH ARE REASONABLE AND CAN AFFORD BY THOSE POOR STUDENTS.[reply]

This is not the place to vent your frustrations to RiSci admin. --Howard the Duck 04:08, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verification

[edit]

Some information about this school: http://www.deped.gov.ph/public/public.asp?sec=&action=edit&iID=37001&type=Public this maybe a late reaction but i would like to point this out anyway. to the school principal of risci, why can't you show the student body the transparency of the last js prom? you charge the students 500php and yet the outcome of the js promenade does not seem to reflect the amount of due that you charge the students. 500php is a lot of money and that money must have been put into the family's food budget. PLS!!!!!!!!!! HAVE MERCY ON THOSE POOR STUDENTS PER PAVORE!!!!

Is this the largest high school in the Philippines?

[edit]

--Howard the Duck 09:19, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not, although the largest one has a similar-sounding name. It's Rizal High School in Pasig. --- Tito Pao 23:12, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, Rizal sure put up a lot of schools, eh? --Howard the Duck 03:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problems/grievances

[edit]

So what are the Problems/grievances of this article. I'll put this on my watchlist to prevent any untoward incidents. --Howard the Duck 03:18, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I can see, the article started out right. However, there's this editor ("The riscian"?) who makes edits that are deemed too offensive by the school as well as some students and parents, and also, as far as WP policies are concerned, too WP:NPOV (must be some clandestine tibak in school =P ) I mean, just the sort of things that you'll often find on other articles about schools, colleges, universities and perhaps even some companies. Apparently, either readers from this school didn't like what they were seeing, or those who took the time to revert it got too riled up and too tired to keep on editing this article, so one of these editors did an AfD; as it turns out, the others also voted "Delete" on the AfD as well. At any rate, I've also included this article on my watchlist; so far, so good, the editor (or editors?) in question hasn't returned, but I'm still keeping close watch. I've to admit, though, that this article needs more work; Cebu City National Science High School is a better article, although it also lacks references =P Of course, in terms of quality, both articles still have to match the article about the mother of all science high schools in the Philippines. --- Tito Pao 04:38, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moving on

[edit]

Hm. Now that the article has our attention, folks, may I raise the question of what needs to be done to bring the article up to par? What needs to be added and what needs to be removed? I have a few ideas myself, but I'm not feeling very well right now and I'm not able to examine the article extensively yet :-S

As for sources, which seems to be the most critical concern for this article right now, it seems there's very little online for us to use. Since they're the ones with access to the print documents, I'd encourage the students and teachers of the school to actively participate in improving the article. That means coming to a deeper understanding of the philosophy of Wikipedia, and for that matter, of the internet as it has evolved so far.

Hopefully, what will come out in the end is an encyclopedia article that will provide the public with relevant information about the school. That article should adhere to the policy of Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, so it should neither promote nor disparage the school in the process of informing the public about it.Alternativity 17:25, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep this article under watch. However, if the school community is so antagonized by the so-called "bastardization" of their article to the point where they requested an AFD because the article is shameful to them, then they should take the initiative to improve the article to make it better-sounding rather than hide it under the rug. Wikipedia should build bridges to reach out to these people, not serve as outlets for societal practice of hiya and amor propio. --Sky Harbor 02:06, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Motto?

[edit]

I don't recall the school having an official motto or did they just have one recently? Need clarification on this... that's all, thanks.- CK Luna 13:02, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

You know, the motto did sound rather strange, for a school. And from what's been said so far, it doesn't seem consistent with the image the school seems to want to portray. Er... folks, what do we do here, just assume good faith?Alternativity 15:21, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No source = shouldn't be in the article. --Howard the Duck 02:28, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well I just found out that the students used that line...s in the cheering contest thing so that means it isn't really the official motto. Delete?

Yeah remove it. Or else "Go USTe" should be UST's motto. hehehe --Howard the Duck 00:57, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Department Chairs

[edit]

Clarification regarding acceptable usage of the term? The heading has been reverted back to Department Chairmen, and I wonder about whether the use of that term is still acceptable? Especially since in this case, the title refers to a number of women as well as men. Do we distinguish between Department Chairs, Department Chairpersons, Department Chairmen, Department Chairwomen, etc? I dunno. I come from the academe myself, and I haven't heard the word "Chairmen" used in years. Even when the chair is a male, he is usually referred to as the chair. Or perhaps this practice hasn't filtered down to the secondary level yet? My experience is university-based. Thanks.-- Alternativity 17:35, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Use what the school is using. --Howard the Duck 04:02, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I don't think having a list department chairs is that important in an encyclopedia. --Howard the Duck 05:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its better to use Chairperson to reffering to the head of the department. The Metaphorical Epiphany (talk) 08:42, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

is the RISCI BATCH 6 SITE really needed in this article? I checked it out and it's a Multiply site... :/ Putoman 12:51, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Given that this is the English version of Wikipedia, shouldn't this section be in English? DigitalC (talk) 07:51, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it doesn't have any English version --WarGaleon (talk) 07:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then it should at least have something in English explaining what it is. And what language is it, anyway -- Tagalog? I'm going to tag it as Tagalog at least for now, just so the spell checkers and typo scans stop flagging it. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:10, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
