No such thing as "too long to read comfortably" as long as the information is relevant

[edit]

The message "This article may be too long to read and navigate comfortably" is just silly. 38.13.12.13 (talk) 20:13, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please replace Balkans with Carpathians in the first sentence: Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, on the northeastern corner of the Balkans.

The Balkan Mountains are located south of the Carpathian Mountains. The Balkans are not in the vicinity of Moldova. I believe the author meant to speak about the Carpathians instead of the Balkans. The intended description of Moldova located "on the northeastern corner of the Carpathians" is correct. Sebpop (talk) 02:52, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"...on the northeast corner of the Balkans"? No. "The Carpathians", perhaps.

[edit]

The first sentence of the lede states "Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, on the northeastern corner of the Balkans" (emphasis added). This is a peculiar claim, first because "the Balkan states" generally refers to Bulgaria and the nations on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea (Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, etc.), which Moldova is nowhere near. But there is, in fact another mountain range that lies between the Baltic Mountains and Moldova: the Carpathians. So to describe Moldova as being "on the northeast corner of the Balkans" is to dismiss the fact that there are at least 150 miles/240km of plains, plus the Carpathian Range, between the Baltic Range and the closest point of Moldova (although there is still 50 miles/80km between the Carpathians and the closest part of Moldova, so "on the corner" is a stretch). If no one can argue persuasively why this should not be changed, I will correct it.
